And nice find! I recently rewatched a ton of Disney movies and then some Don Bluth ones. I loved American Tail as a kid and it was amazing to see that again after all these years. And I checked out The Secret of NIMH, it was really cool.

Too bad traditional animation is dead. I can't get into these 3D movies for kids at all.

In other format wars news ... I bought a stack of Laserdiscs at my library's book sale. Best of all, they're mostly Don Bluth flicks.

IT BEGINS! I think laserdisc collecting is a lot of fun. I especially like tracking down things that aren't on DVD or Blu-Ray. And sometimes there are bonus features that aren't available elsewhere! LD is a great format for collecting animated works. Some editions let you go frame-by-frame and see each drawing individually if you want, which is super-neat!

The purchase has been a long time coming. I figure buying it for movies I like is no big deal. The art alone is pretty great. I left a lot of stuff I wanted at the sale, but I think I picked the right ones. For example, they had more than half of The Next Generation on LD.

Getting Disney movies in the highest quality available before they digitally recolored everything is a huge plus in my opinion.

I can't stand the bulk of the CG movies that have come out, but it's not because of the animation, the humor is just awful. I really am missing cell animation, though. I've actually been watching 80s anime to fill that gap. It is definitely hitting the spot.

That is the only reason I see the upgrade as viable. I have projected standard Blurays in a standard movie theater and they are acceptable, but projecting a HD video that I worked on off a PC to a Roadster HD18K (Christies 18k lumen 1080p from a couple years ago) with 10bit color it was awesome.



So the Hemingwrite/Freewrite is now out of my range of acceptable technology. A writer friend of mine got his and told me it was not for me. They went for a true typewriter like experience with no delete key or arrow keys. That would drive me mad. So the alternative is a Alphasmart Neo, a 2009 word processor aimed at schools that is all over the nanowrimo scene. Does anyone have one? I know they are super cheap on ebay, but I have some questions before I buy a lot.

Yeah, I saw some of that elsewhere in the past week or two, and that could make it a compelling upgrade - but I think it still comes back to a better quality picture in general. Not in the market for a TV for a while I think, but buying the combo packs will probably be a decent idea soon enough

I actually discovered that modern TVs don't have quite the number of inputs I need. With my setup I need component, several HDMI, and PC in (D-sub). The PC connector has been pretty much phased out (I use it for my X-RGB3).

Final Fantasy VII has been on Gamefaqs top 100 games list for 6427 days. That is over 17.5 years.

10 Years ago this week, Final Fantasy Versus XIII was announced. Then it got renamed Final Fantasy XV and releases in a few months (maybe?).

@ Cronozilla - Thanks for that info on the newer formats.

Actually even the CLV versions can go frame by frame unless you have an older top loader player. This is the Laser Disc greatest feature, the control with a Jog Shuttle Dial. Oh and that Roger Rabbit Laser disc has some extra "oops" footage deleted from newer DVDs and BluRays. See my Laser Disc Guide.

I recently acquired a very rare Laser Disc with a limited production run of only 8000, its the newest Reply in the Link above. I own almost 500 Laser discs and did not think I would still buy more today.
