Damn dude you're killing it.
The Scheme rules. Can't believe it never got a Famicom port.

Re: Summer Games Challenge 2016
Just messing with The Scheme for a bit last night while getting its emulation set up correctly, I was already getting hooked and had to make myself stop playing it. Definitely loving these obscure Japanese PC classics.

Akumajō Dracula (Famicom Disk System)
Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryū to Hikari no Tsurugi (Famicom)
Guardian Heroes (Saturn)
Hikari Shinwa: Palutena no Kagami (Famicom Disk System)
Moon Patrol (various)
Ninja Gaiden (NES)
OutRun (various)
Super C (NES)
Wonder Boy (Sega Master System)
Zaxxon (various)
Was on a roll and took this one down a few hours ago. I dunno what's next - perhaps Wonder Boy. I had to take a break from Kid Icarus, that game was not agreeing with me.

Re: Summer Games Challenge 2016
- Shining Force (Genesis) - I have finished 20/30 battles, but the 21st battle is a doozy!
- Phantasy Star Online (Dreamcast) - I have beaten the game!
- Thousand Arms (Playstation 1) - I have about two chapters left.
- Metal Saga (Playstation 2) - I am at about 60% of the way through the game. About to reach the 2/3 point.
- Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door - I have about two chapters left and I think I just did the fetch quest which took about 5 minutes.
- Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic - I have about three chapters left, but I am about 80% of the way through the game.
Phantasy Star Online is off the list!

Wonder Boy on SMS gets pretty damned hard, looking forward to seeing how you handle that one Bone.

Re: Summer Games Challenge 2016
Played it for like an hour during my daughter's nap.
Oh lord..... I'm not feelin' it. Slippery ass controls that are BACKWARDS (A is B and B is A, y'all know what I mean).
Unlimited continues are good, I guess?
Just checked out the World of Longplays vid on YouTube - which is pretty much a perfect run. 90 minutes?! Are you kidding me. Oof.

Re: Summer Games Challenge 2016
In Progress:
Dragon Quest IV (NES)
I switched out DQ VI for IV as it seems IV is the start of a trilogy, a bit shorter, more appreciated by fans and has an interesting chapter system which I found more suitable for me. So I've been playing this on my phone using Retroarch and it's a wonderful experience. The game plays beautifully at double speed which makes grinding and battling a real pleasure, then when I need to do anything fiddly like equipment or using items I just slow it back down at the push of a button. Retroarch has all of it's best features on screen and I actually prefer it to the PC version which can be a maze to navigate.
As for the game I really wanted to pick a JRPG because it's been about 10 years since I've completed one, although as a teen they were an absolute favourite. I'm really enjoying the episodic nature of the chapters, I'm currently at chapter 3 where I'm breaking genre conventions by not being a hot girl or mysterious silent male but instead I'm a fat merchant, awesome! The first chapter was very easy and served as an intro/tutorial into some basics with the main character being really OP. Chapter 2 introduced party mechanics and magic and the 3 characters were interesting, starting weak but gaining power quickly. Looking forward to playing the rest of this and I'd definitely play another DQ again.
Mario Golf (N64)
I started Mario Golf nice and early too as I thought it'd take a long time to finish but as it stands I've already unlocked 3/4 of the courses and a few of the characters. I'm unsure as to what I need to do to consider this "finished", I'm not really sure I want to unlock all of the characters, it'd just be A LOT of 1 on 1s which are a little slow.
I am really enjoying the game though, the controls are simple yet just advanced enough to require some attention and the courses are cool too. I do have some minor issues with the N64 emulation, there's a small blue box always in the top left of the screen although other people report this as unavoidable and theres some occasional texture tearing but nothing major. Fun game, Yoshi my man!
Guardian Heroes (SS)
Not really started this, just tested Saturn emulation which I was surprised to see worked pretty much perfectly. Game looks super fun though so should be a blast.
Not Started:
Mario Bros 2 (NES)
Resident Evil 2 (PS1)
God of War (PS2)
Panzer Dragoon (SS)
The Movies (PC)
Doom Ultimate Edition (PC)
Fire Pro Wrestling Returns (PS2)

Re: Summer Games Challenge 2016
I'd like to join in as usual this year. I have a partial list I'm not happy with.
Sam and Max Hit the Road
Thief Gold
Contra
Mega Man 64
Commander Keen
Ogre Battle 64
Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
I already removed a couple of games I know I'm just not in the mood for. I'm not sure if some really qualify as classics among what's left. Mega Man and RE3 are probably debatable. Keen too.
The rest I think, are probably ok.
Though even if nothing changes, that's still 2 short.
I do think I need at least one classic I originally didn't play for lack of interest. Move out of the comfort zone. But I can't think of anything in particular at the moment.
I'm having a long term brain fart about the list this year.

Is this just a US thing? I hear people over there say the same thing about Alex Kidd, but both games have the controls the right way around for me when I played them.
I actually quite enjoyed Wonder Boy, I think it's better than Adventure Island for sure. That music drives you nuts after the first 5 minutes though.

Re: Summer Games Challenge 2016
It was gorgeous and sunny here in the UK yesterday, so I'm gonna call that as the start of summer
I'll be starting my summer challenge shortly. I'm thinking either Fire Emblem or Super Aleste will be where I begin.
