I also have no problem with tank controls, but since I was around for those early third person days which struggled with mouse integration, it's just a habit for me to use a controller on my PC for them. Then again, I really don't play too many third person games on PC in general.MrPopo wrote:Early third person games were kinda bad about how they handled mouse integration, but modern stuff I feel does it well. But I'm also the type who has no problem with tank controls, so I might just be weird.

Strangely enough, his first proposal was going to be getting three stars on every level in Angry Birds...(which, if you actually attempt it, is pretty hardcore...)nullPointer wrote:unless it was the sort of thing that was explicitly intended to separate the "elite" from the "casuals").

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
man, this PC Gamer article about Mario Is Missing ( http://www.pcgamer.com/the-pc-mario-gam ... me-forgot/ ) kind of makes me want to play it, even though it sounds terrible. I have a fascination with weird licensing... the same why I find the Zelda CDi games interesting. Or why I love DOS versions of NES games. Or why I find the unlicensed Amiga version of Dr. Mario or DOS version of Mario Bros (that's MB, not SMB) so intriguing.
Anyway, this brings up kind of a neat topic. Besides Mario Is Missing, what other Nintendo properties have appeared on PC in some legit shape or form? If we're calling Pokemon a Nintendo IP, then there's that online version of TCG for instance.

A lesser known one:noiseredux wrote:Besides Mario Is Missing, what other Nintendo properties have appeared on PC in some legit shape or form?

http://www.mariowiki.com/Super_Mario_Bros._Special
It's a Nintendo sanctioned, Hudson developed remake of the original Super Mario Bros. It's visually similar, but has very different level designs and other changes. As far as being for PC, it came out on a few Japanese PCs... the most notable being the NEC PC-8801 and Sharp X1.

There's a 'Mario Teaches Typing' too, and plenty of Pokémon anime themed CD-ROM discs from the late 90s, which have little activities targeted at kids. I think there was also some sort of Mario game where you played him at cards or mahjong or something.

Funny enough, John Romero's Dangerous Dave series was heavily influenced by Super Mario. He even showed an alpha build of the game to Nintendo reps in hopes that he could get access to the license to build a port for PC. Nintendo refused, and instead Romero turned it into Dangerous Dave.noiseredux wrote:Anyway, this brings up kind of a neat topic. that was Dangerous Dave? Huh. I always had that story in my mind as Commander Keen.Ack wrote:Funny enough, John Romero's Dangerous Dave series was heavily influenced by Super Mario. Did you ever see the video that surfaced in the last year or so of the level 1-1 Super Mario Bros. 3 demo? OMG.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Keen kept the dream alive after Carmack managed to perfect the side-scrolling action with his game engine, so he and Romero approached Nintendo about porting Mario 3 by showing them the game Dangerous Dave in Copyright Infringement, but again, no dice from Nintendo.

It looked like it would have been a damn good port too:Ack wrote:Keen kept the dream alive after Carmack managed to perfect the side-scrolling action with his game engine, so he and Romero approached Nintendo about porting Mario 3 by showing them the game Dangerous Dave in Copyright Infringement, but again, no dice from Nintendo.
But I understand why Nintendo said no.
