My opinion of every Sonic game released.
Re: My opinion of every Sonic game released.
I really enjoyed Sonic 2. Great music, the levels are well designed, and fun to look at. And it really improved over the first one aside from the Tails factor. Its the reason I bought a Genesis. That and Ecco of course, what a great game that was pure genius.

Re: My opinion of every Sonic game released.
The first one was shorter and had a much easier final robotnik fight so I don't understand how you would think that. I'm still confused though about what is so bad about Sonic 2. Break it down for me because I just don't understand where you are coming from at all.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:I thought the 1st was much harder. How can anyone not like Sonic 2? Thats the best one in the whole series to me. It had the best music, best special stage, perfect length, and introduced the most important move to the whole series "the super spin dash".
Also Its funny that you say its too easy but don't knock the first one for being even easier. Its not like I expect you to say its the best one either, but when you say its one of the worst it just boggles my mind.
Re: My opinion of every Sonic game released.
... That you consider Sonic Adventure better than all the 3d mario games invalidates all your opinions.
I challenge you to find more than one other person who agrees with you. The games were pleasant, no doubt about it. But compared to Mario 64? Or Super Mario Galaxy? Different leagues my friend. Different leagues.
Sonic Adventure was clunky and rough rough rough around all of the edges.

Re: My opinion of every Sonic game released.
Okay. Heres how it goes for me. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 just lacks what I felt made the other Sonic games good. I loved the sense of speed coupled with a decent challenge, long levels, cruising music, and some decent challenging platform elements. Sonic 2 botched this for me. It felt like it was trying to hard. If I need further proof of why I feel Sonic 2 is a disappointment, look no further than Oil Ocean and Metropolis Zone. Oh dear god the screws. Not to mention I feel Tails is the most worthless sidekick of all time. Knuckles at least added plot. Tails was just there.buttonmasher123 wrote:The first one was shorter and had a much easier final robotnik fight so I don't understand how you would think that. Also some of you are forgetting that these are my opinions. I hated Super Mario 64 (yea here comes the hate mail). Ive never been a giant Mario fan in general. Mario 64 was good for the time but gave me a giant headache. Galaxy is 64 with a gimmick, and Sunshine, the one I really actually enjoyed, felt way to short, and is bashed by most people because it tried to do something besides the basic formula. Sonic Adventure was all that it tried to be, nothing more, and its length was perfect for the experience it offered. Its probably my favorite 3D platformer actually...
Opinions are like assholes, we all have one.

Re: My opinion of every Sonic game released.
I grew up with Sonic not mario so Sonic Adventure was much more of a thrill for me than seeing mario in 3D for the first time. Although Mario 64 definitely impressed me when I first saw it. I won't argue that mario 64 is a better game in pretty much every way but If I was trapped on a desert island. . . I'd still choose sonic adventure.
Mario galaxy I couldn't get into as much and definitely not mario sunshine. They both went a little too far from the basic formula. I'd go crazy for a 3D version of the mario world idea.

Re: My opinion of every Sonic game released.
What made Sonic 2 less enjoyable was the trying factor as mentioned above, remember folks this was the only Sonic game to ever be almost entirely coded in the US. Add in that factor an you can't help but realize that yes it's gimmicky, yes it's slightly shallow, and yes it's been americanized. Thats why I don't like it as much as 3; two to me felt more like a cash in on the hype and publicity surrounding the genesis at the time.
Three was when the creators & level designers that actually created the original game got back in the saddle and were given near full control over their own game. The levels all feel familiar and progress smoothly there's not an insane amount of platforming to be done and the later levels aren't filled with bottomless pits. Don't forget about the music either, Sonic 2 had a few memorable tracks but who can't remember most if not every track from Sonic 3?
Not to say two is bad it's just that Sonic 3 was the second Sonic game I ever played aside from the original.
On another note Sonic 3D Blast on the Saturn has the Sonic 2 special stage in real (polygons not prerendered) 3D as it's special stage and it rocks!

Oh yea. Its amazing. I really wish they would bring the special stages back.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote: On another note Sonic 3D Blast on the Saturn has the Sonic 2 special stage in real (polygons not prerendered) 3D as it's special stage and it rocks!
Also, what I think every new Sonic game should look like speed wise, dispite the fact that the controls in this are crappy...

I never played much of Sonic '06 other than the demo so that stage actually makes me want to check it out from work ( I'm a GameStop slave AKA GA ).

Its actually decent. There are 4 mach stages like that in the game, and the Crisis City one is brutally hard in a non control related way, which means its good.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:I never played much of Sonic '06 other than the demo so that stage actually makes me want to check it out from work ( I'm a GameStop slave AKA GA ).

Cool I'll definitely check it out then.
Also after seeing your post on the what generation did you grow up in thread I have to ask; Are you really 15?, I just turned17 and thought I was the youngest guy here by a large margin. There's a longer version of this post on that thread but it's 2:30 a.m. over here on the east coast & I've been typing all my posts tonight on my PS3 with a SIXAXIS so I gotta crash. See my other post if you wanna se how I got into retro though.
