Thanks for reminding me of Puyo Puyo Tetris. I kept meaning to buy it. Just bought the Vita version off Play Asia.

Even if you don't understand Japanese, the story mode is still a bit of a laugh. My personal favorite is the character named "Satan" who's more like the East Asian "Fop" archetype equivalent than anything X3

I got one original and 2 sequels? In that case, it works, then.

I already started playing the GBA version. It's not that much different from Bean Machine/Avalanche, you work your way up playing matches against new opponents every time. There's also an endless mode.

When I was a kid, I loved Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. I played the Game Gear version first and later got the Genesis version.
Last year I got Puyo Puyo 2 and Sun for Saturn; those are more my style, honestly. They're extremely ridiculous and have anime-style art/characters!
I wish that I had Puyo Puyo Fever for Dreamcast, just because it's the last Sonic Team game for a Sega system.

Are we going to be posting scores? I'd like to see how my skills stack up to other folks' (I don't expect I'm going to be anything special but I'm curious) but there are so many different games/ports/modes that I'm not sure what would be best.

yeah I was thinking it was gonna be hard to do scores because of all the different ports, versions, sequels...

My guess is that Mean Bean Machine is the most accessible port of the original Puyo Puyo since it's on Genesis, and then the PS2 era compilation and the PS3/360 era compilation and on Steam and so on.

Ok, I'll admit MBM is a lot harder than I'd think it would be. It took me a good 20 minutes to clear stage 2. 2! That guy drops 4 rows before I put 4 sets down. Only a 4 chain saved me. Plus, this is the first password I probably had to write down in 15-20 years, no saves on the Mega Collection!

At least Kirby's Avalanche doesn't get harder till about halfway in.

In sonics mega collection you can hit either L1 or R1 to pull up a menu that let's you save and load files.

On the PS2's Mega Collection Plus you can, the only data it saves on the Gamecube is the number of times you play each game to unlock the other games. It's ok, at least I have the password for when I get back to it.

been playing Mean Bean Machine on Steam. I haven't beaten level 2 yet on a single credit. :\ I think I forgot just how hard the early games were in single player!

I'm planning to install Qwirks in DOSBox when I get a chance to check that port out.

I really wish Sega had brought later titles like Fever and Puyo/Tetris to Steam.

This will be a good opportunity for me to rack up some :B:s on backloggery.

I have Puyo Pop for the NGPC and Puyo Puyo 2 for Wonderswan and I believe I have the Game Gear/Master System version of MBM on one or both of those Sega licensed handhelds I collect.
