Yeah but it doesn't make him any less racist and I don't think it has any place on this forum at all.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I think he needs to look up 'tact' in the dictionary at least.

This is a really uneducated arguement, as several posters have pointed out already. So I'm not going to repeat what shallowgamer, Niode and The Apprentice have already articulated.

I will add that America borrows trillions of dollars from China just to satisfy the ridiculous amounts of over spendature made by greedy Americans who know no better than to buy what they can't afford. China more or less have America by the balls and yet the country continues to send world economies into deficit. Hmmm...now I can think of plenty of substantual reasons to be an arrogant asshole toward your country, as you have to another.

Because we should all have to hear it, over and over again, about how we're all so terrible and evil. After all, we're the only negative force in the world, and so much worse than any other country. And it's so obvious that we're all terrible and that we don't question ourselves or our policies, regardless of the many opposing American viewpoints present on just this forum alone. We're all greedy, lazy, and fat pig cowboys who want to sit on our asses and have everything brought to us on a platter, right?

Do you want to know a funny secret? I love learning about other nations. I think it's fascinating to examine other cultures, study history of other areas of the world, learn the philosophies that drive them. Yet I can slowly feel myself becoming an "arrogant asshole" towards these cultures. Do you know why? BECAUSE SO MANY OF THEM ARE ARROGANT ASSHOLES TO MINE. Every forum I go to, every section of comments I read, all over the Internet, it's all I hear, day in and day out. "Oh, Americans, so horrible and nasty." "Terrible Americans, the cause of all our problems." "Hateful Americans, spawn of Satan." "All Americans suck. They're all worthless idiots and fat, greedy, and lazy." And I see it constantly. Reviewing my history, I see it isn't new, either. America has been disliked since Europe created the degeneracy thesis.

So good job, rest of the world. Your attitudes are doing their best to stamp out the growth of any potential in America, simply because the constant barrage of hate and disdain from you kills any desire in me to not see you as potential threats and enemies. There may be some truth in the things you say, but your high and mighty attitude keeps me from ever wanting to acknowledge my own problems. In the meantime, enjoy your stereotypes.

That's very true. I shrug whenever I read some general statement about American culture. People have no idea how diverse is the US, they just want to cling to whatever picture of the typical American they have in mind (normally a zombie buying whatever TV says they should).

It's a stupid mindset that even blames government actions on individuals. For instance, the U.S. starts a war abroad against whichever enemy its government picks and somehow every American individual becomes an imperialist pig.

Back to the thread, no, I don't hate supporting China.

It's certainly a bad thing that there are sweatshops over there or that there is child labor. But child labor doesn't go away because we wish real hard, it goes away because society gets richer and can generally afford to put their children into schools rather than into factories. (In economic speak, the stock of capital must increase so that there can be a long-run increase in the standard of living.)

If you don't want to buy Chinese products, you're certainly free to do so, but if you do it just because you don't want to oppress the Chinese people, you're likely doing them more harm than good. Without American trade, the demand for labor decreases and Chinese workers' wages fall. Likewise, the working conditions get worse, and that may push more children to the labor force.

In short, I don't hate supporting China, though I do find their situation undesirable.

I don't feel guilty about it because it's not my fault. It's their government and elite's fault for looting their people so much and putting so many obstacles ahead of them that they're not able to labor their way out of those conditions.

@Ack - I didn't mean that with any intention at hating on the US, I just meant to refer that it works in reverse for the guy who said all this stuff in the first place.

Regarding the rest of your comments, I'm going to politely disagree and walk away now...

I love America but, there are so many things wrong with America. I think the founding fathers would puke if they knew what became of there beloved country. Many of the things that made us great have been lost and its really depressing. Were still living off the hard work and accomplishments of our forefathers. But there greatness is fading into history quickly. There is nothing we do or make today that is propelling us to greatness again. Large corporations like Walmart, Bank of America and others own this country now. The people have lost it and the only way to get it back is take your money elsewhere. But you and I know that will never happen because people are too dependant on these companies now. As in some areas all the competition is gone now. These large corporations are the landscape of America now and rule us. :x

Nah, it's cool. I fully understand what you mean about the street working both ways. Just one of those things that has built up over the years. It just gets a little old being told that whenever we're in another country we should claim we're Canadian. :D

And I really have never gotten the anti-corporation thing. So Wal-Mart sells cheap junk for, well, cheap, and they're not very good with HR, so what? American businesses grow, build, make the entrepreneurs that founded them rich, and then begin moving out, becoming worldwide and in many cases closing off many of their American roots, and suddenly they're the enemy. Yet the rest of the world still sees them as American. They get hate from both sides. At what point did they suddenly become these evil government controlling entities that people keep claiming? I'm not ragging on you, Corn, I just seriously want to know why you hate them so much.

One word Ack, GREED. I live in a old part of the country and I've seen 100s of honest, established businesses and good paying jobs go under due to the Walmarts and BOAs of the world. They sell a subpar product at inflated prices. Suppliers give them products with Walmart only SKUs that are made more cheaply than products sold to other merchants. Walmart is now able to sell them a little cheaper than the competition. Local merchants are unable to compete when they can't get the SKUs Walmart gets. For example, say I buy a faucet at Home Depot and then I buy the same model# faucet from a local merchant. They may look the same, but the one from Home Depot has a different SKU than the on bought from a local merchant. Product suppliers make special, cheaper products so large corporations can sell them cheaper than the local businesses. Its unfair I think. And its just not companies like Walmart and Home Depot. Large financial companies like AIG and BOA single handedly destroyed our economy. Were so dependant on them that were throwing good money at bad business and it goes against everything this country was founded upon. Dependance is slavery, and if these companies go under the country will crumble. Therefore we are all slaves to them. Thats why I hate them Ack, in a nutshell. I wish I could put it more eliquently, but I'm tired from work and just plain spent.
