Gba sp - power light is on with no battery

Post by TheBrick »

So, I just changed a battery in one of my gba games, and I popped it back into the gba to test it for saving. I turn the gba off, and the console turns off, but the battery light stays on. I tried turning it back on to test the game saving retention, but it won't turn on, even though the light is still on. So I tried unplugging the gba battery, and the light is still on. I have no idea how this is happening; my brother suggested it might be the new battery in the game, but would that actually affect the console power?

I just tried unplugging the game and that turned it off. It was still weird though; I didn't even think that that could happen!

Obviously, if the LED is glowing, it has power. The only components besides the battery that retain power are capacitors. It could be that something is damaged or some logic component is operating in error and causing a capacitor to slowly drain on the power line to the LED. It's definitely not normal, but I wouldn't worry about it too much since the system runs at 3 to 4 volts. It's not enough voltage to hurt the user or fry other components if there is a leak.

Very weird, but nothing to spend time worrying about. If something is damaged, it's on the main PCB, and most likely, can only be fixed by replacing the board.

It's haunted. Immediately douse with gasoline and light on fire to cleanse.
