7 is the only core entry I have thoroughly enjoyed, enough to beat it 6 or 7 times. To enjoy a jRPG, the story and setting have to be good, and as far as I'm concerned, no other entry has been able to capture both. 1-6 are completely fucking mundane in every way possible. 8 had the setting, but the story and characters were garbage. 9 was too much like the old games. 10? Fuck no. Just no. 12 has potential, but it hasn't been able to suck me in. I played it for a while, just for the new mechanics, but I couldn't care about much else.

6 (AKA American 3) Is my favorite, followed by 7, then 9, then 8, then 5, then 4 (AKA American 2), then 1&2, & then 10.
Never played enough of 12 to really give it any rating, and X-2 was alright.
Never played 3 ever so no rating there either.

Final Fantasy: Tactics
I guess that brakes the rules? In anycase, it's simply the pinnacle of SRPG goodness. Playing almost anything else in this genre feels like a major step back. Looking forward to replaying this on the PSP, when time opens up for me to be fully dedicated.

Final Fantasy 2 or 4 depending on what country your from. When I first played that game, I knew I would be playing videogames for the rest of my life. It has the best story to date and instilled a sense of adventure I still look for to this day in games, but have yet to find. Dragon Quest VIII came very close but still didn't surpass it..

Final Fantasy VI, which has easily defined my opinions of JRPGs. I really hate when a JRPG focuses heavily on one individual, to what I feel is the expense of all others, and I also like a large cast. I really loved that this game didn't spend the entire time focusing on one specific character, but went from person to person, emphasizing each one individually. I really enjoyed the monster art, the music, the steampunk level of technological sophistication...heck, it was just a well built game to me.
Got to agree with this, too. Easily my favorite among strategy RPGs, and one of the top entries in the entire FF series.Daniel Primed wrote:Final Fantasy: Tactics
