Hateful Eight

Movie was pretty bland in my opinion it was really long and drawn out and none of the characters really interested me. Just excessive amounts of gore and a lot of scenes built solely around shock value. That one scene that everyone talks about involving Samuel Jackson's backstory is pretty over the top and creepy as well. Basically it's a film full of underdeveloped but interesting characters, but nobody is really likable so it just becomes a pointless blood bath towards the end.

Honestly I found the extras more interesting then the movie. The Panavision lens discussion was pretty neat.

So over the weekend I went to see Hardcore Harry, aka 90s FPS The Movie. So the first thing I'll say is that you should not see it on a full stomach or have food while watching it. It is 90 minutes of intense and nearly non-stop action. If you remember this xkcd then you will understand what I mean when I say that this almost qualifies as an Action Movie.

Now, the thing is, the plot is razor thin. It is 100% an excuse plot so that Harry can kill lots of dudes. It even throws in a twist at the end that actually makes things make less sense. But none of that matters because the climactic fight scene is set to "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen. As an aside, we need more things in life set to the music of Queen.

The film is one giant homage to the FPS conventions of the 90s, so your enjoyment of the film is based entirely around that. The biggest problem I had with it was they were only using a 24 FPS camera and it is quite noticeable during many of the heavier action parts where you can see the individual frames because the camera is panning fast enough that you see something move 5 degrees between two frames. I think this is part of what caused some motion sickness for me. I didn't really start to feel it until the last third of the movie, but at that point I was feeling not good, though I never actually needed to hurl. The other thing that I found distracting was that in certain chase scenes they would do a cut to remove a half second or a second of the chase, which I found to be quite distracting.

You mean Henry? Although Hardcore Harry would make for an awesome sequel  .

Yes, I meant Henry. I just really want his name to be Harry for some reason.

Good, but I was barely paying attention since I was also on the computer.

we saw The Jungle Book in 3D over the weekend. The CGI was so believable. Great looking movie. An enjoyable one as well.

@noise, how scary is it? I'm thinking the 5 and 6 yo's can do it, but might be too much for the 3 yo.

Just saw the Jungle Book also. I thought it was stunning. The original jungle Book was the first film I saw in the cinemas when it was rereleased in the early 90s and this updates it nicely.

It is a little scary. Def wayyy too scary for a 3 year old and I think 5 or 6 may be pushing it.

I'm kind of a poor judge - my cats are 8 and 6 and really no movies scare them nearly as much as the vacuum.

That said there's definitely some scary parts for younger kids.
