I saw Season 1, which included:
Part 1: Phantom Blood
Part 2: Battle Tendency
All together it was like 26 episodes IIRC. Now this was a few years ago, but I remember not being as impressed with it as everyone else seemed to be. That said, if you say the second season is awesome, I will give it another shot. I went ahead and got all the Patlabor OVAs on your advice. Working on getting the TV series too.
What in particular did you not like about them?
A lot of fans still like Joseph as the best Joester, he did ooze a lot of personality. I'm a big fan of Jotaro from Stardust Crusaders too though, but he is admittedly straight up Kenshiro. Insanely serious and stoic, but good hearted, like he's never tempted by women or anything. What's really humorous is to consider that some of these characters in part 3 are in high school, when they look 30 something.
The animation in particular was HUGELY improved compared to what you saw, so the action and battles in SC are wayyyyyy better. You could tell they were running on a low budget for the fist season. "David Production" haha, but hardcore fans of the manga claim these guys are knocking it out of the park and have been very faithful to the original material, which is always cool to hear.
(and apparently this scene is pages in the manga, so it's hilariously accurate haha. Dead?)
Joseph is still a main character and just as awesome and hilarious as ever, even in old age. The time leaps this series builds upon is really cool to me. But yeah unlike the first two parts which were basically one man shows with the JoJo's, SC has an awesome group of four characters. So that was also kind of different and cooler to me.
It can be pretty episodic though, which is hit or miss. But phew the payoff is pretty insane when they get to Dio near the end. Not a huge spoiler since it's apparent from the start, but yeah the whole ordeal is going against Dio again.
It's a pretty different flavor is what I'm getting at. If you did enjoy the first two parts at least a little or are curious about more, it's worth checking out. Way more standout characters, much better action, and insanely weird creative ideas with some of the "Stands".
I hear part 4 going on right now is more comedic, has bigger story arcs, and one crazy serial killer main villain that's supposed to be really good.
