The Great Controller Count

Post by fast »

As I was packing consoles for this years Momocon, I came to the realization that I have a lot of controllers. I mean a lot a lot. So I was curious to how many other retrogamers had the same problem I have.

A break down from memory:
Atari 7800
Joysticks – 2x
Paddles – 2x
Flight stick – 1x

Atari Jaguar
Controller – 1x

Sega Master System
Controller – 3x

Sega Genesis
Controller – 3x
3rd Party Controller – 2x

Sega Saturn
Controller – 10x (model 2)
Multitap – 2x (US release and Bomberman)
Lightgun – 2x
Arcade Stick – 1x

Sega Dreamcast
Controller – 5x
Keyboard – 2x
Fishing Rod – 1x
Flight stick – 1x (Panther Stick DC)

NES
Controller – 4x
MAX Controller – 1x
Advantage – 2x
Quickshot – 1x
Flight stick – 3x
Powerpad – 1x
Zapper – 2x (1 of each color)
R.O.B. – 2x

SNES
Controller – 4x
Lightgun – 1.5x (1 for parts)

N64
Controller – 5x

Gamecube
Controller – 4x
3rd party controller – 15x (12 white, 3 misc)

Wii
Controller – 2x
Nunchuck – 2x
Lightgun shell – 3x (2 perfect shots, 1 crossbow)
Arcade stick – 2x (Hori)

PSX
Controller – 2x (no thumbsticks)
Controller – 2x (thumbsticks)
Arcade Stick - 1x (2 player layout)

PS2
Controller – 3x
Specialty Controller - 1x (Chainsaw signed by Bruce Campbell)

Xbox
Controller – 5x
Steel Battlion Set – 1.5x (1 is for parts)

TG16
Controller – 1x
Multitap – 1x
Arcade Stick – 1x

PC
Controller – 2x
Flight stick – 2x
Arcade sticks - 2x
Adapters - lots

That makes around 100 controllers (not counting shells or adapters), and I know a few of you have more than I do. So how many do yall have.

For the record, most are stored in containers in throughout the year and only come out a handful of times (if ever).

I have several plastic grocery bags full of Atari 2600 controllers. Joysticks, driving controllers, paddles, at least half a dozen of each. I even have 2 different types of wireless joysticks. And then there's weirdo stuff like the Kids controller, the Joyboard, and these weird blue and yellow things that look like a trackball, but move like a joystick. I haven't figured out what those are all about yet.

I have a bunch of other systems with a modest amount of controllers for each too. The 2600 really got out of hand though.

I generally have 1 controller for each system, and usually the only person that enjoys the older games I do has a controller for that console anyway so its not really a problem for me.

I've gotta have at least 50. I'd break them down but I won't be home for a couple weeks. I'm constantly buying new 3rd party ones (mostly ps2-compatible for pc functionally) hoping they'll be better than what I already have. I've been trying to track down a Sammy Keyboard Pad Mini for almost a year.
