Most impressive arcade port on the snes?

Post by holaback »

What do you think was the most impressive arcade port on the snes considering the systems limitations? Is there a list somewhere that as all the arcade ports listed for snes?

Street Fighter II and Turtles in Time were really great ports.

I think I covered a good amount of arcade ports for the snes in my screen shots. Please let me know if i am missing anything. No need to mention MK2 or other numbers of the same game that is already up though.

My pick I think is street fighter alpha 2 on snes on most impressive port simply cause they sorta pulled it off. I mean come on really who thought capcom was even gonna try to port it on the system.

It was a good port, although it was odd to see a loading screen on an SNES game.

That version makes use of the S-DD1 chip for graphic decompression. Due to the graphics decompression that needs to be performed, this version has several loading delays when entering matches.

Well, Street Fighter II is kinda the game that got the SNES above the Genesis early on. While Genesis only had 3 action buttons, SNES had 6, meaning it could more or less emulate the feel of playing the arcade game. Considering SF fever was in full swing during the entire 16-bit war, this gave Nintendo a clear advantage.

The Killer Instinct port, while graphically very inferior, still retained the feel of the arcade version, and that was the most important part. Mortal Kombat II on SNES was, and for most people, still is the best port of that game.

Also, U.N. Squadron was a pretty impressive port and it is usually considered one of the best Shmups on the SNES.

Turtles In Time is pretty much the definitive Beat 'Em Up on the SNES, and in some ways is actually better than arcade perfect (at least, I remember when I played the arcade game, it had much less stages than the SNES game).

(On a side-note, I really enjoy the JP Undercover Cops Arcade, but the SNES version was lacking multiplayer, just like Final Fight. Kinda kills half the fun factor.)

I would agree with the7k about U.N Squadron and go one step further and say it was much better than the arcade version. Also Street Fighter Alpha 2 is a terrific port as well.
