Dreamcast. All things relating to the console.

Fighting games.

Arcade ports.

That about does it.

I guess if there's a system I could probably talk up and about the most it would be the SNES. Grew up on the NES in the early years, but the SNES has always been one of my favorites.

There are definitely several members here with more knowledge on it, especially RPG and fan translated games wise. But with my collective years of gaming, I probably put in the most time and variety into the SNES as I grew up. I regrettably sold some Sega stuff off and on when I would upgrade to newer systems, but the SNES never went anywhere!

If I had to guess, my greatest area of knowledge is in the NES-PS2 console RPG category, and general knowledge of the 8-bit and 16-bit eras above all. Specifically NES, though, I'm pretty sure that's where I know of the most hidden gems. I also obsessed over SNES/Genesis specs back in the day, and can usually answer any crazy-ish questions about architecture. It really is too bad the SNES can't really handle an overclock...

I enjoy the 16-bit era RPGs and I like to collect for the PS2 :D

Probably RPG's. That would be my genre of choice.

Besides that, I have a good selection of hits and games that I know a ton about. However, I wouldn't call myself an expert on it.

If it's 8 or 16-bit and involves jumping, Sarge is your man.

If it's an RPG never released in English, and only runs on archaic Japanese computers that not even modern Japanese people ever heard of, Bone's got that shit on lock.

lol I remember asking my Japanese teacher, who's in her 50s and from Osaka, if she had any memories of the Fujitsu FM-7. She had no idea what I was talking about. She did rock the MSX and X68000 though.

I can't really say I'm extremely knowledgeable about any particular thing. I've certainly played more RPG's throughout my life than any other genre, but there are still plenty of classics that I've not gotten around to playing yet.

But as for where my interests lie, that's definitely in RPG's. And as far as systems are concerned, the Playstation 1 and 2 mostly. But also plenty of PC.
I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

I would really like to dig deeper into handheld gaming so that I can learn more about it but sweet crap on a stick that can be painful!

GB/GBC - No back lights!

GBA - No back light (original model), or it's a hand cramper (SP), or it's expensive (SP 101), or you need a magnifying glass to play it (micro)

Game Gear - Good luck finding one that still works and doesn't need all of its capacitors replaced.

Lynx - Good luck finding one at all!

Honestly, a PSP with some custom firmware is likely the best solution.
Have: Sega Genesis, SNES, Atari 2600, Atari 7800, Atari 800XL, PC, N3DS XL, Wii U, GBA, Xbox One, Switch

Want: Games!!!

I didn't realize how much a problem this was, actually. I have one of the Majesco-produced models, so I'm hoping it holds up a bit longer than the older models. It's also supposedly got a slightly better screen... but only slightly; it still looks terrible compared to modern LCDs.

Probably, although I was running into issues with Batman for GB in both emulators I used, and the Game Gear emulation is really, really spotty. (No, seriously, I'm not sure if anything runs Ax Battler properly.)
