It's totally Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures. Because it's totally an RPG, right? ;)

XCX is getting better and better as I go. I still don't like it quite as much as Xenoblade yet, but it's finally starting to come together. And I don't even have a Skell yet!

Listen here, you motherfucker.

The bump system is standard old computer ARPG combat. If you wish to explore this genre at all you'll have to get used to it. It's not just Ys. Other games that bump: Hydlide, Dragon Slayer, Xanadu, Minelvaton Saga: Ragon no Fukkatsu, Makai Hakkenden Shada, Kalin no Tsurugi, Sylviana: Ai Ippai no Boukensha, Xak, and many more.

Of all these, Ys has the best bumping. There's strategy involved, and proper alignment means less damage done to the player.

Also, these are the Ys games, with the bumping ones highlighted:
Ys
Ys II

Ys III: Wanderers from Ys
Ys IV: Mask of the Sun
Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys

Ys V: Ushinawareta Suna no Miyako Kefin
Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim
Ys: The Oath in Felghana
Ys Strategy
Ys Origin
Ys Seven
Ys: Memories of Celceta
Additionally, Ys, Ys II, and Ys IV: Mask of the Sun have remakes that drop the bump in exchange for "normal" combat. So that's only one game with mandatory bumping. You can handle it.

And for that love of all things holy, play Ys Origin.

Sorcery Saga taught me a lesson last night about saying it's easy.

I was near the end of Madadel Ruins. Had a bad ass sword and shield, that'd I'd been crafting up for a while. Well at one point I found a red seal. Took a gamble on it, and the seal screwed me over. It randomly converted all my items into junk. So I lost all my restoratives. However it didn't affect my primary weapon and shield, because I had ID guards on them. But, shortly after that, I ran into an extremely powerful enemy I'd never seen before. Before I could get to it, it had already killed Kuu. Then when I reached the enemy, it knocked my sword and shield out of my hands, and damaged me tremendously. Since all my restoratives had been turned into junk, I couldn't heal myself. So, I died. Since my weapon and shield were on the ground, and Kuu was dead, I lost not only all my items, and all my money, but those carefully crafted weapon and shield items as well. Basically lost an hour and a half of progress. Ahh, roguelikes, such is life.

That phrase never ends well in roguelikes.

He can't handle the truth.

After playing like 5 Y's games and not liking them, Origin is incredibly low on the to-do list.
