i know that the size of the cart is one of the main reasons why it is so huge, however, i think they would still make it much smaller with the tech of today. I understand that it would have to be wider than the carts, but only by a little bit. and it wouldnt have to be soo long. With that said, thank god for PSP.. Portable Genesis that can fit in your pocket, and gets better battery life. Sucks for 6 button games though.
