Introduction to Street Fighter
Re: Introduction to Street Fighter
Wow, don't tell him to go online with SFIII:3rd Strike! If he's only just getting introduced to the series. It's only the hardest of the hardcore that still play that game online. He'll get owned. I have never won a game on it ever.

Well, he said he only had a Playstation 2, so I doubt that is of concern to him. I was throwing that other information out there for the benfit of others. I suck at Street Fighter III, but I'll still play it online with anyone who asks me to. It's just fun to play others and chat over the headset while doing so.
Now that we've covered the basics for the topic creator, I have a question for the rest of you. Which version of the main Street Fighters on which console was your favorite and why?
I liked Street Fighter Alpha 3 on the Dreamcast the best of any console version of the game because it had the World Tour mode where you went around and faced different challenges, plus, it had so many characters and options it was unreal. Was one of the first games I purchased for the system, and I spent many hours playing through every part of it. The Alpha Anthology version on the PS2 may well be the direct arcade translation, but it seems quite bare-bones without all the extra modes and features of the Dreamcast port.
Street Fighter III: Third Strike I probably like the Original Xbox version the best because I can still play online against my friends via Xbox Live and the Xbox 360. I also owned and still own the Dreamcast and PS2 versions prior to getting the Xbox version, but it is the standout for me with online play that I can still make use of today.
Super Street Fighter II Turbo I probably like the HD Remix version on Xbox Live Arcade the best. The visuals are modern 2D and the online play is near flawless. So long as your have the Fighting pad controller, this game is gold. Prior to this version, it would probably be the Dreamcast version of the game that I have. Super Street Fighter II Turbo X is truly scarce import title, but it was an Arcade perfect translation, complete with a full compliment of dip switch settings that let you adjust so many things to your preference, even one that added the bonus stages back in during arcade mode! I don't think any other home console version had the dip switch settings as an option. Odd bit of Trivia, the first home console to receive a port of this game was the Pannasonic 3DO. I remember being so envious when the best I had at the time was the slow Super Street Fighter II on the SNES.

Re: Introduction to Street Fighter
Alpha 2 on the Super Nintendo was one of the first SNES games I owned. I played it constantly, loving the visual style and the large cast. It was...amazing. Now I own it on Saturn and the PS2 as well, and the gameplay still holds up, though I've lost a considerable amount of skill over the years. Still, some absolutely classic times. This is easily my favorite Street Fighter ever made, and likely always will be.
Re: Introduction to Street Fighter
^^^ you and your snes ports...
... that was an amazing port though. One has to at least see it!
My fav is the Saturn port of Street Fighter Alpha 2. When I get the 6 button pad for 360, then SF2 HD and SF4 shortly after... all this may change! Cant wait to finally get my hands on those items.
