Anyone bother registering their pets? I'm not really seeing the benefit since I don't intend to breed them. I never registered my Boston (CKC), apparently I still could three years in...but it just seems like an expensive piece of paper. We just bought a Pug and I got a full AKC folder with all the "benefits" of registering and the late registration penalties outlined.

Am I missing something? Is there a point?

I am, however, considering some pet insurance. Both breeds have risks for a lot of conditions and the vet bills are already ridiculous with just routine stuff. Do any of you guys invest in insurance for your pets? If so, what is a good provider?

I register since it's like, $15 per pet annually for me and it gets their microchip in the municipal database in case one of them escapes. I believe there are also penalties if your pets are unregistered in my county; since my cats are indoor only it wouldn't come up except in the escaped case.

I have chipped my Boston, and will chip the puppy when she is old enough. I've never heard of any penalty for CKC or AKC registration though. Isn't that an entirely different thing? From what I can tell, I'll just get a certificate. If I want the "deluxe" version I will also get lineage paperwork.

The only legal requirement I was aware of was annual rabies vacs and a tagged collar. Our dogs are indoor only as well, unless they are with us so it is a moot point with the chip...but who knows? It's a minimal expense.

I think we're talking about two different things. I understood your question to be about the pet license from the county, but now it sounds like you're talking about something else entirely.

Yeah, I'm talking AKC or CKC registration. Just paperwork for purebred dogs, which leads me to believe there wouldnt be any laws to complete it, unless you want to breed and sell.

Yeah, I stay far far away from the whole breeding shit. I've got two rescue cats, one is your standard domestic shorthair and the other I think is a few generations away from a Bombay and is almost doglike in her need for attention and touch.
