So lets give a little back story on the subject.
A few days ago in my area a post went up on a Craigslist type app for an Orange Fire Console N64 with six assorted controllers and a Super Smash Bros for $50 Dollars. It was really cool to see. HOWEVER! After it had been sold. The post resurfaced again almost about 10 minutes. For $150 dollars. It was not the same person and popped up by a fellow collectors username. So basically this person bought the N64 from the guy and decided to flip it for 3 times the price. Needless to say everyone lost their shit! Saying it was uncool to do this while others saying everyone does this. I happen to be in the earlier where i thought it was a dick move.
I wanted your guys opinions and to just start a discussion on the state of collecting right now. Was the guy justified on selling for 3 times the price immediately after buying it or not.

I think the actions in this situation certainly lack tact, but this is different than taking a good deal from a friend or forum member only to flip it.
If I were looking at that posting I would certainly be miffed that it went to someone who was just going to flip it (as opposed to someone who might genuinely appreciate the find) - but I wouldn't really fault someone for jumping on the opportunity to make a few bucks.
It's not something I really do myself, but if I were flipping stuff like that I think i'd at least have the decency to sit on it or move it through a different channel.

This at least would have been a much better and less deliberate way to goSpoonyBard wrote: i'd at least have the decency to sit on it or move it through a different channel.

I don't think there's anything necessarily wrong with it. The seller sets the price. It's not the buyer's job to tell them what it's actually worth. How many of us have scored deals at yard sales, thrift stores, pawn shops, or flea markets because the seller wasn't informed about what it's worth? That's their fault, not the buyer.
Certainly, it would have been nicer had it gone to someone who really appreciated it, but there's nothing wrong with what he did. Although I'd probably have waited just a bit before relisting, just out of tact.

It's wrong in how it was done but also not in how it was done and I know that probably made no sense.
It was wrong to buy something in one locally public space to turn it around and instantly re-sell it for the full market value. It's sleazy and hurts the locals. I saw that crap done at the flea market out west and once they caught on to a guy doing that every weekend after everyone phone checked their shit and all the deals were gone permanently.
It wasn't wrong to do it though at the same time because the person who sold it valued it as such and got fully what they wanted so where's the harm in that? They got what they wanted, the reseller got what they wanted, but they're a douche in how they resold it. Should have just used their (you know they have it) ebay and/or amazon account and been done with it that way.

I've always thought reselling is just fine no matter the situation. If a deal was agreed upon and goods changed hands, what happens afterward with those goods is irrelevant. Business is business. I have to say, haggling is a completely different thing, and I dislike it. I mostly never sell anything used because of that.

When other people do it, it's ethically wrong.
When I do it, I'm just being savvy.

Everything we buy used is from a reseller. However, just does not seem right to buy a game, movie or book for resell profit and not even try or view the media. The one reseller I saw in BookOff had a complete disregard for books; scanning each title edge with an iphone for value, not even looking at the book and just dumping in a basket damaging the binding edges.
I hate resellers, especially the ones that block the store aisles or Swap Meet table doing price checks on their cell phones. Get out of my way for someone who will really treasure that game! I hope those individuals who "invest" have a personal market crash.

It's all part collecting/hoarding/whatever for the hobby. If it's not a person, it's a game store, or a flea market stand, or ebay reselling the item to make a profit.TechXRenAgadeX wrote:Was the guy justified on selling for 3 times the price immediately after buying it or not.
Or it's a guy who's keeping it, never to be sold again (or more likely, never to be sold at the same price as purchased).
As long as it's not immediately posted for sale after buying from the same site, I'm not bothered by it. I'm not bothered even if it is from the same site, except for forums. Don't s*** where you eat.
