It's kind of sad to see the direction DC seems to be going in their movie department. I just get the feeling that they're basing all of their decisions on the atmosphere of Nolan's Batman films ("Look! See! They're all dark and moody and they were popular! Lets make all of them that way! That'll sell tickets!"), which worked great for Batman, because, well, that's pretty much how Batman has always been. But that doesn't mean that formula is going to work for everything and the more I read, the more I think they might have shot themselves in the foot with that assumption.
Which makes me sort of scared for next years Wonder Woman movie.

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?

we finished season 7 of Beverly Hills 90210 tonight. It ends w/ them graduating college. Oh and Donna and David finally do it. It was a good season overall. Better than 6 for sure. I won't go into much detail, because I'm not delusional... I know I'm the only one on this board w/ any interest in this show haha.
Started season 8 which opened w/ a two-parter that ended in a total WTF moment as Kelly gets shot in a drive-by. Srsly.

Saw Batman v Superman. I hated it with the intensity of a thousand suns. I'd fill a book with my complaints on it so instead of doing that I'm just going to give it a sharp, "not recommended," and I'll be skipping Justice League if Snyder and co. stay attached to it.
Wonder Woman might be good though. She didn't do much in this movie and her subplot made zero sense but what she did do was pretty cool.

I'm going to go ahead and say I don't like Nolan Batman much. Or a lot of Nolan for that matter, and Hans Zimmer isn't anything special. Loud noises and bass has nothing on the classics like Jerry Goldsmith.
I just wish there was a nice middle ground for me, which was kind of Winter Soldier. A superhero movie that doesn't pander, hold my hand, and is serious, but still has the fun fantastical elements in there because it should be there. The third Nolan Batman especially, was barely even about Bruce/Batman and felt like a long drawn out Gotham police drama. To say these movies are bad would be a stretch, but I really never think of them as anything earth shattering or have much interest in seeing them again, they all felt like 60 minutes too long.
I rewatched the two Burton movies again last year and I like those way more.
More than likely very unpopular opinions. Bring it!

I agree with you to a certain extent. I thought that The Dark Knight was spectacular, but I prefer both of Tim Burton's Batman films to Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises. I also think that The Winter Soldier is far and away the best Marvel film.Xeogred wrote:I'm going to go ahead and say I don't like Nolan Batman much. I decided to not waste my time with BvS and went and saw Big Fat Greek Wedding 2. It's a pretty good sequel to the first; while it does carry over a lot of the themes and some jokes of the first it does stand on its own and isn't just a rehash.

I saw BvS and really liked it. Sure, it's all over the place, but I already liked Henry Cavill's Supes and I really liked Affleck's Batman, so it wasn't a surprise that I ended up liking it. I didn't think Jesse Eisenberg was very Lex-like, but he was still a good bad guy. I liked the music they used during his sequences a lot too.

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
I thought Lex's leitmotif was really jarring actually. I can't say I cared for the score but others loved it so whatever. It was the least of my problems with the movie.
And I thought he was a terrible bad guy to the point they could have left him out of this movie entirely and written better ways to move the plot along. What the hell was his motive even? The Joker has sounder motives than he does.
I will agree Affleck was good and his chemistry with Jeremy Irons was really great. I kept wishing it had been a solo Batman movie.
I can't really say much about Cavill really, but it's not his fault. The script barely gave him anything to do beyond mope.

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?

it's been a few years since I've watched Labor Pains. Not the best Lilo movie, but probably funnier than you assume. It was a bummer at the time. It was supposed to get a theater run but then got bumped to just being a TV movie. And nobody paid it any mind. It's cute though. And Lindsay looks great in it. And she's funny. It has a decent premise - girl fakes pregnancy to get out of being fired, then sort of believes the lies she's built. They could have actually done more with it - made it a bit more serious than it was. It's not bad, but not great. There's definitely much better Lilo flicks.

I love Encino Man. Like, I know it by heart. I've seen it soooo many times since I was a kid. It's my favorite Pauly Shore vehicle for sure. And I actually think Brendan Frasier is kind of awesome in the same way I think Val Kilmer is awesome - they tend to pick weird roles and take them way more seriously than they should. "Don't tax my gig so hardcore, cruster."
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
I thought Affleck did an excellent job with Bats. I'd love to see a solo outing from him as well. I like Cavill's Superman as well. Man of Steel was a much stronger movie, and actually progressed logically.
Also, man, everyone worried about Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman... well, that totally worked out. Of course, not sure anyone will ever match Lynda Carter, but they could have messed up the casting so badly.
