Well first of all, the PS2 versions of I/II and III are "enhanced ports" - that is, they're still 2D games but with a graphical overhaul and some added dialogue and gameplay content. (Somewhat humorously though, the PS2 version of part III is the shortest of all as much of the grinding has been cut out and it's easy as hale.)

Part IV and V on PS2 are more along the lines of 3D remakes. PS2 Ys V has some additional plot elements and the magic system has been tweaked some. The game's a touch expensive overall, so I'd really only recommend it for hardcore fans. Also, a complete walkthrough does not currently exist so Japanese knowledge is kinda essential.

I also picked up Ys V Expert this month. It's apparently not very popular as I had to add it to the RFGen database.

Got three games in the mail today. I got 007 Legends for Wii U from a random eBay auction, and from JoeAwesome I got Retro City Rampage DX for PS4 and MUSHA for Genesis. My Genesis is about to get a LOT of love over Spring break....
