I didn't know this was originally meant for the Dreamcast, interesting. I like the beat 'em / RPG hybridization, and the graphics are stellar (this is Vanillaware after all). I'm looking forward to getting deeper into it as we have time. If I had a decent internet connection at home I'd try to do some online co-op with you, but alas.

Dragon's Crown is a game that I should love, but for some reason, it just didn't strike me right. I can't even properly verbalize why, but I think that's true for a lot of brawlers. It becomes very difficult to quantify why one likes a particular brawler over another, and it usually boils down to "feel".

It's easier for me to compare something like, say, Double Dragon vs. Final Fight, because I've had years to think about why I prefer Double Dragon. And in the end, that may be why I don't like DC that much, that despite the RPG elements, it feels really shallow.

EDIT: Oh, yeah, that's interesting, bringing over Trails TC. I didn't really care if they did on that one, since it's very much a side story, but I'll take more Trails over the oversaturation of moe junk. No offense to you folks that get your jollies from those, of course.

I didn't like Dragon's Crown either. I pre-ordered it and everything. I was so excited. Thought it looked great. But just wasn't fun to me.

I should note that I also feel the same about the D&D beat-em-up games.

Well Dragon's Crown is basically those on steroids, so if you didn't like one, makes sense you wouldn't like the other.

I feel like Dragon's Crown doesn't have good visual feedback on what the player's agency is. This ends up making me feel like I'm endlessly just mashing buttons, because I don't know what's going on or what's effective. Which is boring.

To me, Dragon's Crown felt like it was basically trying to be Diablo, or that style of game...but it just didn't click as well. The cursor thing to find extra treasure really didn't integrate I think. I can see that it's adapting for not having a touchscreen, but it's really something that should have been shelved either way.

Hrmmm... I love the D&D Beat Em Ups. This is inspiring me to pick up Dragon's Crown.

I pre-ordered it and got the big-ass artbook. Here are some of the original DC character designs:

The game never clicked with me, which is a shame.

I would probably be more interested in the game if Vanillaware had stuck with the more *ahem* "reserved" character designs. As it is, playing through the game with my wife would likely subject me to a running feminist critique. (Not that she wouldn't enjoy the game...she is a big fan of beat 'em up / hack 'n slash games.)
