My Skylander amiibos should be here in the mail today. I was NOT a fan of paying the current going prices (especially Dark Bowser), but I finally reached a decision on whether or not they count as amiibos or Skylanders, and since I'm going for a complete amiibo collection, I decided they needed to be part of that.

I am hoping the release of No Man's Sky might be some kind of culmination/start of a downward trend for open world games. I mean we are starting to get into open world games whose biggest selling point is how open world they are. I think we're reaching critical mass here.

Any time an open world game comes out that interests me (once so far this gen) it's bittersweet because I'm trying to figure out if I'll come anywhere close to beating it, let alone doing everything there is to do.

I'm putting out the call for more focused gameplay. Not linear necessarily, but more focused. I think Arkham City is a good example of this. There was quite a bit to do in that game, but you could decide to do all of it, just the story, or somewhere in between and still beat it in a reasonable amount of time where you felt like you got your money's worth AND completed it. Red Dead Redemption would be another IMO.

I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth, but these potentially 100 hour games are just becoming too prevalent when the vast majority of people don't even take advantage of all the content anyways. You can still have an open world game with plenty of distractions that still nudges you towards the story for the most part while still giving you options. Plus trimming the fat would enable some of these companies to focus on making legitimate improvements as opposed to "how can we dress up the same engine again".

Then play the non open world games. Let those who enjoy them, play them. There are enough games being put out that an individual doesnt have the time to play them all, so just stick to what you like.

I'm not saying eliminate them I just don't think we need this many of them. If the landscape shifted to more games like the examples I gave there'd still be plenty of content but more titles would be versatile enough to satisfy both camps. Maybe I just like playing a few more games at a time than some people, or I need to beat more games.

I don't know, but No Man's Sky doesn't seem like the kind of game that you "beat." It seems more like SimCity to me, you can accomplish goals but there is no "beating the game" in the traditional sense. You get out of it what you put into it, it's not like a 100 hour RPG.

That's why I'm looking forward to it. I know it's going to get boring fast when played in long spurts, but it's EXACTLY what I want when I need to just veg out.

I'm not sure how boring it will get, or how fast it would get boring. There's endless exploration, which is a big part of course, but there's a whole buy/sell/trade part of the game, acquiring raw materials from planets to sell or trade, upgrading your ship (which isn't linear), combat, and I don't know what else. Looks like there's some sort of good/evil path you can take as well. It seems like there's a lot more depth to the game then what people realize.

I wish that Nintendo had released a 64-128gb 3DS eShop cartridge designed to store downloaded games to itself. That way moving your eShop games from 3DS to 3DS would be an instantaneous breeze, since the games are tied to the card, and not the handheld itself.

I don't swear but these everdrives FUCKING ROCKS!!!!!!!!. Next is the n64 then maybe a tg16 if I get another system. I will never spend my money on carts again
They're cool, but I'd definitely recommend still picking up carts if you see a great game at a bargain. That's what I do. :D

Sometimes you have to get the original cart anyways. Modern flash carts have very high compatibility, but there's usually a few problems games.
