Hmm, well that's 2 so far for Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone, 2 for Unepic, and 1 for Drakkhen.
Still plenty of time to vote though. I didn't play any Ultima Underworld last night, so I haven't gotten any closer to my goal.

I didn't know that was a sequel to Riviera, aren't the gameplay totally different between the two?BoneSnapDeez wrote:Go as old as possible. Go with Riviera.
And play Yggdra Union after as it's a "sequel."

Yep. Knights in the Nightmare and Gungnir are part of the same series too.TEKTORO wrote:I didn't know that was a sequel to Riviera, aren't the gameplay totally different between the two?BoneSnapDeez wrote:Go as old as possible. Go with Riviera.

They're a very loose 'series' of games, they all go under the Dept. Heaven moniker.

Riviera is probably my favorite of the Dept. Heaven games. I wish we'd see the series on PC.

Re: The People's Choice Thread
Yeah Knights of Lodis is good, but is a slimmed down version of TO LUCT. Beware though, LUCT is a long game. Especially if you want to get the PSP version true ending.
I also didnt mind the judge stuff in FFTA, as the goal was to mix up strategies and add another layer of challenge. I also loved the robust job system and classes available.
However, the story and plotlines were much more juvenile and forgettable. I honestly cant remember what they were about now. I also recall the characters being annoying.

The idea behind getting you to mix up strategies is good. It's just the implementation is incredibly ham-fisted and arbitrary.Exhuminator wrote:I thought maybe the judge system was put into place to force the player to use a variety of strategies throughout the game, instead of relying on the same winning stratagems for each battle over and over. I mean if that's the case, I'm cool with it.

Ahh I remember when I sold you the gba version awesome to hear it's one of your favs.noiseredux wrote:Riviera is probably my favorite of the Dept. Heaven games. I wish we'd see the series on PC.
Cool to hear the series is loosely based, the devs are flexing their muscles. Haha

So looks like I'm in 50 hours just for the base campaign alone. I don't mind it though, as long as the gameplay is consistently engaging and rock solid.
See, between you saying that, and Jmustang1968 saying the plots are juvenile, I am reminded why I still haven't given either FFTA games a chance yet. It's so hard to tell with Square games versus internet hyperbole.MrPopo wrote:The idea behind getting you to mix up strategies is good. There are 3 paths, each with their own endings, characters, battles and plot lines. Some are shared at times. There are also side areas with extensive content and high end loot.Exhuminator wrote:According to HLTB:Jmustang1968 wrote:Beware though, LUCT is a long game. In PSP there is this world Tarot functionality where you can rewind games to different points or story arcs. So after you select a path and complete one, you can go back and experience the others and collect all the characters. Doing so in a certain way will allow you to do some even more end game content and then experience the true final ending.

Wow, with that level of complexity, now I understand why SQEX actually brought Matsuno back in for this remake.
Admittedly the investment longevity sounds intimidating, but if it's truly pure SRPG bliss I'll stick with it.
