Whats a good price for a commodore 64?

Post by futuramaguy42 »

My local game store has one and I want to know what a good price would be for it, the ones on Ebay vary a lot, so I don't think I can judge it from there.

Pretty damn cheap. I wouldn't pay more than $20 for just the computer and hookups. $40-50 if it's got a 1541 disk drive.

Brand new they ran: US $595.
depending on the condition, used i'd say less than $100, Seeing as how its an obsolete system. But did have a huge community of followers. I was told by somebody that they made a home security system out of it. They put a sensor on each window and door of their house, and if a sensor was triggered, the commodore was attached to a small alarm. i thought the idea was pretty cool. Tough to say though, like you where saying, ebay seems to vary.

Thanks, now I know not to buy it if it's much over 20 dollars.

Also, can the Commodore 128 play Commodore 64 games?

from wikipedia:
The C128 was a significantly expanded successor to the C64 and unlike the earlier Plus/4 it remained compatible.

Absolutely. The C128 is completely compatible with the C64, and has many advantages over it. Most importantly, the disk drive is a lot faster. Unfortunately most games didn't take advantage of the C128s capabilities. The hi-res modes and extra ram were mostly used for word processing, etc.
