it's not a Codex. I just looked through my achievements. It was an Avatar.
Yup, that's the one I was thinking of. I'm surprised you found him less deadly than a Codex.

maybe I just got lucky? I mean Codex (1) clones herself if you shoot her, and (2) uses that area attack that disables your guns and blows up if you don't get out of it. So when I see her, I'm like "oh no." The Avatar I was able to take out quickly - admittedly less quick than a Codex. Maybe I never gave him a chance to show me his worst.

Bluescreen rounds > Codex. Btw, if you aren't using them, Bluescreen rounds on everyone. +5 damage against mechanical targets.

glad you guys encouraged me to keep going... I was able to finish up this mission and set the Avatar Project back by three blocks. Feels good. I'm still sort of feeling like I'm tooth-and-nailing this campaign. But I'm having a blast.

I think I'm going to wait for a second play through, wait for some patches and maybe some mods. The only one I used first time around was 'evac all' which just saved you clicking evac again and again.

oh it's been a busy week. I've only played maybe two more hours this week. So some progress, but not much.

after 30 hours I assumed Chryssalids weren't in this game. Scared the heck out of me when one of them emerged from the ground.

Hahahahaha. It gets even better. One of the Dark Events options is Chryssalids on every mission for a month.
