I mean, I know you visit planets and stuff. But once the novelty of it all being random wears off, I'm wondering what will keep me playing.

That said, I'm not NOT interested. But y'know, I'm keeping my eye on it and not in a big rush.
Your comment about not being sure what you do in this game is exactly why I was surprised to see it debut at the common AAA price point.

Procedurally generated content certainly has its limitations and there is guaranteed to come a point where things look a little different but... they basically aren't any different than something you saw/discovered an hour ago.

I'm with you though - I'm interested but waiting for reviews/Youtube videos/etc. before opening my wallet for this one.

I love the thought of No Man's Sky, but after Starbound...I just don't know if it will be worth it. I'm happy to wait a while to see how things pan out for the game.

What happened with Starbound? Did it just feel lifeless and uninspired, or what?

After a while, you realize it's basically the same thing over and over again as you wander from planet to planet. You can do so much...but there's no real reason to.

Better than getting pushed out the door and never fixed.

I think a fair bit of it has to do with game complexity going up at the same time.
Yeah it did seem like there were way less games before the patch systems were introduced that were put out broken. Now it's like every major AAA game is broken upon release(they may fix it afterwards but eh damage is already done). I wouldn't mind if they delayed some of these games until they know it works right...

@7k - they were already releasing mostly only those series anyways unless they were publishing others...which yeah most stuff was stuff they published but those games they were and still are last I checked are awesome still

I think the PC scene has been like this for a long time. I think it's a combination of factors that led to how things are now on consoles, but the first real generation where patching was a thing was the last one. There are some PS2 titles that I wish had it, like Ar Tonelico 2.

Anyway, if you know you can't get a do-over, it's going to make you more cautious. If you can, then often the management guys are going to pressure you to get the game out the door. And I don't completely think badly of the suits, because it is a money-making business, and some creators will sit on a creation as long as you let them. At some point, it has to go out the door. Finding that balance can be tough, though.

Yep....sadly
@Sarge yeah but still some of us would gladly still give them money if they let it get more stable and experimented with weird game concepts(kinda like the one with pocket card jockey that's the kind of weirdness it'd be nice to see more often ha ha)
