neo geo pirating

Post by RCBH928 »

Hello
I read on wikipedia that neo geo ceased production of the hardware
because of pirating in 94.

Can any one tell me how that is possible on a high-tech not popular cartridge system when like no one knew how to use a computer

Well emulation wasn't really the problem afaik, although neogeo emulation has been fairly good for quite awhile. What the wiki is talking about though is physical piracy, people making unofficial cartridges, which is a problem with a lot of arcade hardware and cartridge systems in general.

Yeah its physical copies with Neo geo purchasing you must be very careful (especially with MVS carts) not to buy bootlegs. Conversions are another matter though. Emulation is whats been hurting lately though because alot of people emulate rather than buy the current releases for consoles.

Piracy definetly hurt Neo and Sega with the DC

yeah but the actual cartridge and electronic components must be expensive back then
do not forget, there was no ebay to search for your little electronic pieces that you need
to make your own game at your home

People like to say I killed Neo Geo.

However that is a lie. I only prolonged its death.
