broken Xbox 360 controller

I figured I'd give asking here a shot before I shell out 25 bucks for a new one. But my xbox 360 wired controller broke, it just doesn't turn on or respond to any command, the only thing that I can really see wrong with it is that the wire coming from the top is kinda loose, I don't really have any experience fixing any kind of electronics but so it's kind of a long shot but if someone has run into something like this before and knows a quick fix or thinks they can talk me through a repair let me know. Thanks

Open it up, see if anything is disconnected. Have a little look around; it's not like you have anything to lose. Put it back together well, screw it up tight, try it. My PS1 & PS2 controllers have stopped working before and I've done this and they've gone back to normal.
