supposedly No Man's Sky pre-orders will go live tomorrow. I'm almost in disbelief that this game will finally be a reality. Pretty exciting.

Too late.

Etrian Odyssey, Persona, MegaTen. That's all they actually make now. Everything else is just stuff they publish.

No more Power Instinct. No more Trauma Center. Catherine. Radiant Historia. Princess Crown.

Don't get me wrong, their output is still top-notch, but they've taken far less risks with original games since the buyout.

Eh, they were already pretty much only Etrian/Persona/SMT before the buyout. They clearly put all their eggs in those baskets, and Sega is content to let them continue down that path as long as it's profitable.

I'll be honest... the quality on their games is pretty good, but I would like to see them develop something outside of those franchises. They're solid, but they're not the kind of game I like to play non-stop.

The only recent thing that kinda fits would be Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem, but it's still 50% SMT.

I plan to give a 2012 Atlus published 3DS game a try tonight that isn't SMT/Persona/Etrian:

Granted it wasn't developed by Atlus.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

I really like Code of Princess - I've played through it twice - but it is admittedly a really repetitive (and easy) button-masher. You mileage may vary.

I enjoyed that one, to a point. Some of the later missions/challenge missions become a matter of being on the right side of slowdown. Would have been nicer to see on a system that could handle it (or optimized correctly, whichever is the case).

Up for pre-order now on GOG and Steam!

I don't see any real reason TO pre-order it, but I'm just glad to see an actual PC release date.

From GoG: Pre-order now and kickstart your adventure in No Man's Sky's vast, mysterious universe with the Horizon Omega ship, equipped with an upgraded hyperdrive and increased firepower to help you travel faster and survive longer on your interstellar journey.

Unless you meant THAT isn't enough to pre-order it.

I am honestly a little surprised to see it going for $60 though. Most of what I had read about the game made me think of it as a $15-$30 downloadable title (which is not a bad thing, mind you).

I also worry that there has been so much talk about this game versus the very little that has actually been shown to the public. I want this game to be awesome but I worry that it's going to be a let down. I also worry that like Elite Dangerous, the game will be a mile wide and an inch deep...

I hope I am wrong.
Have: Sega Genesis, SNES, Atari 2600, Atari 7800, Atari 800XL, PC, N3DS XL, Wii U, GBA, Xbox One, Switch

Want: Games!!!

This seems to be the general consensus around the internets. For whatever reason, I never had that preconception. I always I assumed it WOULD be a full price $60 game. So I'm not bothered by this. But I'm also not planning to jump on it day one unless there's some compelling reason or great sale price.

This is my concern as well. It *looks* amazing. And sure, the idea that it's all randomly generated sounds like endless fun. But I'm still not entirely sure what you do in the game. I mean, I know you visit planets and stuff. But once the novelty of it all being random wears off, I'm wondering what will keep me playing.

That said, I'm not NOT interested. But y'know, I'm keeping my eye on it and not in a big rush.
