Yep, never wound up buying anything from it, but it was fun to pore over anyway.

Well, it's kind of an oxymoron. What'll actually preserve the screen is turning it off, and devices in general will tend to do that.

I mean, there are screen savers, but it's pretty rare that anyone seems to go out of their way to get or set one past whatever came with the OS.

did you make sure that the resolution was set to 1993... when people still used screen savers?
People don't use screen savers anymore?
Can't tell if you're being sarcastic here or not. CRTs and Plasma monitors generally require screen savers to prevent burn-in, but LCDs generally do not.

On the other hand, if you just plain enjoy your screen saver, then I say more power to you. Have fun!

Well that's just it, I like them. It's reminds me of what used to be. Of course, most people are rocking LCD displays these days, and it's easy just to turn the monitor off. CRTs have that annoying warm up time. But I guess most people aren't using CRT monitors these days, just us retro nerds.

Honestly, I didn't realize that I'm in a minority still using screen savers.

I've been messing around w/ turning my bookshelf arcade stand's guts into a Steambox.

I've run into a sort of surprising issue with Steam's Big Picture Mode, though. It won't recognize my Hori RAP VX-SA because apparently BPM only recognizes Xinput and not Dinput. This is kind of annoying - as I could use a mouse to launch a game, and then the stick is recognized fine. But that sort of defeats the purpose of using BPM and attempting to make this thing "cab-like" and requiring no controls other than arcade sticks.

Related, does anyone know of 360/PC sticks that are Xinput for sure?

If BPM supports keyboard and mouse, then why not just use some sort of JoyToKey solution?

I may look into that - my concern is that Joy2Key could then potentially mess up the game that gets launched, though.

EDIT - I'll have to look further into it, but this may be my answer:

I could have sworn that I used a DInput device with Steam BPM before. Are you sure all your controller settings are proper?

J2K or Xpadder would work, but then you would have to switch profiles when the game launches. Can be scripted, but kind of a pain.

they seem to be as the stick works fine once I launch a game. I tried mapping via BPM's controller options, but BPM doesn't even see the stick. It's weird, but Google says I'm not alone.

Fast told me that that 360ce should work though. If I understand correctly, it basically lets you just treat a dinput controller like an xinput controller.

once I set it up, it's all set right? Like I won't need to launch x360ce everytime I boot the box?
