I'm wanting to play one game out of every gen(including one remake) eventually especially to go with zelda(which I'm stuck on the original).

All i want is for them to release a actual trailer than having to inspect the video and guess about it...

Just so you know, although the mechanics have changed slightly, the basics of IVs and EVs existed in Yellow too, just in a slightly different form.

The joy of the Pokémon games is that you can beat the games pretty easily just trucking through with 1 powerful pokémon or building a party of 6 of your faves, and you can leave it at that or delve deep into the mechanics and build the best team you can. And all of that with literally hundreds of options with Pokemon, moves, abilities and the likes along the way. It caters to everyone.

Yeah, EVs and IVs are just flavor if you are not playing competitively.

Seems so, as I wouldn't get into that junk either as I see no fun in battling other people and going overkill into trying to over analyze every little bit of pokemon. Like marlowe, it's just about the casual capture and usage of the things, some of them, and the general exploration of the sections of the game. It's a nice decent ride when you take it that way and definitely not seriously. One thing that I never quite got into, probably not to my benefit are those berries and the sort.

Yep, I'm of the opinion that blazing through with six is the way to go. You'd shed a few along the way, but that's how it goes! For me in Red it was:
Charizard
Alakazam
Articuno/Pidgeot
Raichu
Kabutops
Gyrados

Mewtwo eventually replaced Kabutops or Gyrados.

I'm not into the competitive scene, but I think it's really interesting.

I couldn't care less about competitive pokemon - I don't have time for that anyway.

My favorite part of the games is the collection aspect and trying to fill in my Pokedex as much as possible. I haven't gone to the point of buying multiple games in a generation yet though... It does kind of annoy me, personally, when there are Pokemon that you can only get through trading or some other not-in-game method but that's just me.

I actually like collecting so much that I have opted not to use the Pokemon Bank service or transfer Pokemon across from game to game. I actually like starting over with a blank slate every time.

But that's the true brilliance of Pokemon - there's just no wrong way to play it.
