Yeah I had all 4 of mine removed when I was I think 20. One of them came in compacted and the pain was pretty bad so they ended up throwing me on Oxycodone till I could get into my appoint. Procedure wasn't bad at all they put me under and what felt like 10 seconds later I woke up in a recovery room with a mouth full of gauze and I told my mom "that was some good stuff" . I was also crazy enough to tell her to go through the Hardee's drive thru down the road and get me a bacon biscuit for breakfast and I even attempted to eat it  .

Really go ahead and get it out of the way if you have the money and they are giving you any discomfort.

That seems like a hasty money grab to me. Besides, since they came in everything smells like tulips.

I had to have my bottom two cut out years ago. One had started to turn sideways and was pushing all the other teeth. The other two tried a few times to drop through, but never actually did. They're still impacted, hung on the lip of my back teeth. They haven't tried to budge in years. I probably should have gotten them removed years ago, but there was some concern where they were that it might impact my sinuses, so my parents and I decided to just see if they would drop through to have them pulled.

It's supposed to get worse with age on the recovery. I'm 36 now, so it might not be all sunshine and lollipops if I do have to have them cut out.

I finally ended up getting all wisdom teeth removed, and never regretted it. I let the oral surgeon put me to sleep to do it, and it was worth the extra cash IMO. Depending on the state of your wisdom teeth, local anesthesia might work well enough though.
Same here on the being put to sleep to do it. I just can't handle people messing around in my mouth while I'm awake(it was a sight just trying to get fillings about 4 months ago, especially since i ended up biting my tongue and didn't know it). Though that's a lot worse than day after Christmas....

I had to have one of my wisdom teeth drilled in half to be removed while the procedure was going on. And I think that side didn't have quite enough Novocain on it or something. Still, I much preferred the local to being put to sleep. But I'm weird enough that I'd prefer to be awake for open heart surgery and other major operations if it were possible.

At one point my surgeon was yanking on a tooth so hard it woke me up out of the sleep. I didn't feel any pain, just the force of the tugging. I said, "I'm not asleep." The surgeon and anesthesiologist looked at me weird and turned up the anesthesia and I zonked right back out. I guess I didn't mind being put under, because I've been put under for surgeries many times in my life. Though the other times were not voluntary, granted.

Anyway, if the dentist says you need to have your wisdom teeth removed, listen to them. Believe it or not, the couple grand they might lose if you don't elect to listen to them, is not going to make or break their practice. Rather, they might actually care about your health as their patient, and with years and years of dental study might actually know what they are talking about.
