It's cool and all, but feels kind of fluffy to me after awhile. It's this reason why I sometimes think I like Circle of the Moon and Order of Ecclesia more, since they don't have any needless fat that could be trimmed. But anyways, that special thing makes SoTN unique in a way.

Yeah. That's why I never feel bad having SotN so far down on my "best Metroidy Castlevanias" list. Way too easy, and, though there is far more content than initially appears, it's really technically nothing new. Not to mention the way to access it is a real pain in the arse. Going to do a 'spoiler' section because I wanna rant, but not give it away.
Getting those stupid rings, and faffing around with the damn spike armor, and having to remember that I even HAVE that bat radar thing. The way that certain areas in the clock tower room are only open during certain times. Lots of cool ideas that just end up being executed weirdly. You can really tell that it's their first try at something of that design and scale. HoD has a very similar feel of not getting things quite right, in my opinion.

The funny thing about this is that I basically stumbled through and managed to do all of this on my first play through of SotN back in the late 1990s. Guess I just got really lucky.
I also really enjoy Circle of the Moon and beat it with all of the "character classes" that you receive.

I love how the jump power up in SotN makes your cape "flap" like bat wings. So freakin' cool. X3

The animations of Alucard are amazing. So fluid. That's some of the best sprite animations I've seen, if not the best.
