That said, I looked at some length estimates online and, given the large amounts of projects I have on deck this next coming month, there isn't any way I could finish this by April. Perhaps I'll save this for the Summer Challenge when I have a bit more time.

Famicom version or the SNES remake?

The SNES game is more than just a remake, I doubt he'd refer to it as the original.

Especially seeing as this is Bone we're talking about here.

Welp, I finished Awakening. Great fun, that game is. I went into more detail on why I liked it in the "Games Beaten" thread, so here I'll just keep it short and sweet. I really liked the pair up system! It's a great edition to the series, and so are the resulting changes to the support system. Looking forward to how Fates shakes up that formula, because honestly I wouldn't really be any bored with Awakening 2.

On that note, the DLC in Awakening is SOOOO badly formatted. Why're there like 20 different DLC packs for 4 bucks a piece? Why can't I just buy them all at once for say, 30 bucks? It's ridiculous: You can really tell Nintendo doesn't do the whole DLC thing too much :/

Might continue on to Shadow Dragon on DS, but not sure. It's either that or Maple Story 3DS, but my spring break from school is next week, so I won't be doing much portable gaming anyway. Might just focus on Path of Radiance, which is still lots of fun, even if it has that stupid blocking of main character's job advancement through plot :/

Speaking of Awakening, I came across a game breaking strategy that made a lot of the experience not so fun for the last 5 or so maps:
Level up two dark mages to max stats and solo the map using Nosferatu as your only attack.

I really wish Fire Emblem would have limited grinding to maximize the strategic aspect of it.

Lots of these games can be broken like that if you seek the exploit. I just try to play normally and avoid abusing OP weapons or consumables.

Galeforce was also hilariously broken in that game. They nerfed it in Fates so that you can only use it when you aren't paired up (either offensive or defensive).

I agree. The limited enemies and maps really made it so you not only had to choose who would fight best in each 1v1 battle, but who would be best assisted by the experience from it. Having a big world map with unilimited random encounters certainly makes grinding out relationships easier, but I don't think it really agrees with the original scope of the game design. I guess that's why they had the foresight to make it optional in this version :)
(Was it optional in Sacred Stones? I remember the map with random battles, but I don't remember if they were optional like in Awakening).

Sacred Stones grinding on the map was optional like Awakening. With Fates Birthright has the Awakening-style grinding available while Conquest does not. I do not know if Revelations lets you grind or not. All three routes let you grind on the exp DLC map if you choose to buy it.

Most of the grinding I've done with Birthright has been for support levels (gotta get those waifus). Maybe a little if I had a character at level 19 that I wanted to use a Master Seal on, but I haven't really done any exp grinding. Granted, I'm playing on Normal rather than Hard (I always do that for my first playthroughs to get to know the characters and play on Hard on later playthroughs), but still. It's not a tough game so far.
