Let's say you're collecting for a certain console and you have whatever, $100 to spend. Do you prefer (find it more fun or rewarding) to:

A) Buy like twenty $5 games?
B) Buy a couple of pricier $50 games?
C) Buy one of the big-hitter $100 games?
I always choose option A.
I must qualify my answer...I buy 20 $5 games if I am paying market value for them. If I am hunting games "in the wild," however, I grab whatever games are the best deal. (In other words, I wouldn't turn down a copy of Little Samson for $100 so that I could buy 20 $5 games at market value.) I also keep a list of "high priority" wants - usually five games for each system - and I prioritize purchasing those games.

.....

Speaking of collecting, I decided which games to add to my want list:
50 Cent Blood on the Sand - I don't have the first 50 Cent game, and it sounds like this one is just mediocre.
Aliens Colonial Marines - It received rotten reviews, but a few members here really like it. I will be adding it to the collection.
Bodycount - Apparently, this game (despite being a spiritual successor to Black) is the very definition of mediocrity.
COD World at War - I don't have an WWII shooters for my PS3 or Xbox 360 that don't have the word "Wolfenstein" in their title. This looks like the best one; so, I will grab it.
COD Advanced Warfare - Solid reviews. Big budget. I'll give it a shot.
Civilization Revolution - I have been considering this for a while. Fast's comments pushed it over the edge for me.
Damnation - It's a steampunk shooter with middling reviews. I like the setting; so, I will grab it if I see it for a few dollars.
Fracture - Apparently, I already own this...
Inversion - I don't care if it got bad reviews. Running up and down walls sounds like fun. I will get it if I can find it for a few dollars.
Jimmie Johnson's Anything With a Motor - Apparently, this is the video game equivalent of movies like The Miami Connection and The Room.
J-Stars Victory VS+ - I just don't like anime that much, I guess...
Leisure Suit Larry Box Office Bust - Normally, I add horrid games to my collection. This one is probably a bit too misogynistic, however.
Naughty Bear Gold Edition - Apparently, this game is just horrid. I will get it if I find a copy for just a few dollars.
NeverDead - This looks unique. I should be able to get it for a few dollars.
Splinter Cell Blacklist - This is supposed to be good. I will get it.
Splinter Cell Double Agent - Ditto.

I actually missed that COD:AW was on your list. Do keep it. Heck of a lot of fun.

Some of the later PS3 titles are becoming difficult to find. I mean you can get a lot of them on Amazon but you would not believe the amount of time it took me to hunt down the PS3 version of Guilty Gear Xrd Sign and Alien Isolation. Yesterday I saw the only copy of Advanced Warfare for the system I've seen since the game came out too.

*Hint: There's no wrong answer, but I am interested in the various schools of thought on this.
I simply go for the games I want the most, which tend to fall into option B, that is between 25 (Average PC, Mega Drive games) and 50€ (Well-known titles).

Sadly, I don't have 50€ to spend, much less 100€

What are you talking about? You can get the Limited Edition version of Xrd for PS3, brand new and sealed, for $22.86 off Amazon right now. (The LE is cheaper than the SE, and comes with lots of nice goodies.)

He might have meant hunting them in the wild.

The only reason people hunt in the wild is because zoos don't let you shoot the animals. It's MUCH easier.

A guy walked into a zoo once.

The zoo was tiny and only had a single animal: a dog.

It was a Shih Tzu.

Yeah but he said "I mean you can get a lot of them on Amazon", and you can indeed get Xrd cheap on Amazon. So I still don't understand.
