I really thought I wouldn't like any Metal Gear game and I'ved p0layed 6 of them now and loved them all. That includes MGS 1,2 & 3, the 2 MSX games and the GBC game.
I need to pick up the PSP and PS3 ones sometime.

Time for one of Ack's unpopular opinions:
I actually like Breath of Fire III.

Do people not like that one?Ack wrote:Time for one of Ack's unpopular opinions:

I like BoF better than the sequel.
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
There are apparently quite a few. I also prefer BoF to BoF II, which I compared to Secret of the Stars when I beat it. But BoF III is my favorite in the series.

I have not played BoF4 or Dragon Quarter yet, so no opinion there. But after going through BoF1, BoF2, and BoF3, I'd rate them:
BoF1 8/10
BoF2 7/10
BoF3 5/10
I realized I have an unpopular gaming opinion today. And that is; I have no problem selling a game once I've beaten it.

Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
I grade on a bit different curve than Xumy. My order is:
BoF: 7.5
BoFII: 8.5
BoFIII: 6.5
BoFIV: 9.0
Dragon Quarter: N/A (I've played, but not enough to really feel comfortable assigned a score.)
The series is a bit uneven, and it depends on what you're looking for as well. The original game is the one that hews closest to standard, Dragon Quest-style play. The localization in BoFII is awful. BoFIII really drags in spots. I think it took the fourth game to get it all right.

Very surprised to see the first get the highest grade. Most often that one is considered the weakest in the series (along with V)Exhuminator wrote:I have not played BoF4 or Dragon Quarter yet, so no opinion there. But after going through BoF1, BoF2, and BoF3, I'd rate them:

Part one is very straightforward and ordinary but it gets shit done. AWESOME music too.

That's probably why I like it the best. It's not as goofy as BoF2, nor as bloated as BoF3. BoF1 is simply a well paced traditional JRPG, but with the added ability to turn into dragons and obliterate bosses. Well executed comfort food with a dash of special sauce is all you need to be an 8/10.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Part one is very straightforward and ordinary but it gets shit done. AWESOME music too.

Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
That's the thing, I found BoFIII less frustrating than BoFII. Yes, the encounter rate was high in BoFIII, but it felt worse in BoFII to me(I actually quit playing BoFII for a year because of how frustrating I found it). I liked the trainer side portions of BoFIII, and building the fairy town felt like much less of a chore than the town-building portion of BoFII, which just felt so...limited and rigid. The art style and soundtrack of BoFIII I found whimsical and appealing, similar to Mega Man Legends in a way that helped draw me in. And while the plot and battle system were pretty bland and average fare, it was still consistent with both of the previous games. In short, I saw BoFIII as similar to its predecessors but with a much more appealing coat of paint and additions I enjoyed. Of the first three, I actually would rank III the highest, followed by I and then II.
