I remember that. I believe it's a point about four levels in or so where it tells you this. That said...admittedly it's not that uncommon of a phenomenon with video games. What annoyed me more was the camera. For years I struggled to get past the first level because of a segment where you climb down a cliff and hop across a river. I just couldn't do it because I couldn't see it. I had no sense of perspective as to the distance. Once I finally managed to force my way through this, I ended up beating the game.Ziggy587 wrote:It's been a long while since I've played CV64, so my opinion might change a lot if I play it now. But the only thing that really pissed me off when I played it was this: If you play on the easier difficultly setting, some where in the middle of the game, right in the middle of a level, the screen goes black and it tells you to play on a harder difficulty to play any further. You get into an elevator, the elevator goes up, and then the game stops. The thing is, you have to start from the beginning to switch the difficulty. So just be warned, don't play it on easy if you actually wanna beat the game!Anayo wrote:Ooh, you all just reminded me I have an unplayed copy of Castlevania 64 in my library. I decided to play all the good Castlevanias

I actually have fond memories of Castlevania 64 from back in the day, but I have no idea which version I played. I just remember thinking it kind of felt like a darker gothic Zelda or something. It is one of those titles that seems scary to go back to though, maybe best left in the past. But we were all mostly innocent back in that day before the internet destroyed us, so it was simply just another cool looking game on the Blockbuster shelves and a worthy rental.

I think I might be a terrible gamer because I find Castlevania games extremely difficult/taxing. Was playing SOTN last night for about an hour and I can't even get past the Alucard clone/ghost (or whatever you call it). So hard to me. And I know people say SOTN is one of the easier games...
Think its my lack of patience/fine motor skills.

Haha yeah, I was about to cut you some slack there until I kept reading.flylikeabird wrote:I think I might be a terrible gamer because I find Castlevania games extremely difficult/taxing. Try to stick with it though. I would say experiment with weapons and find something you like, since there's a lot of variety there. There's tons of weapons that break the game and surely has to be something in there that fits your playstyle.
Beyond that though, no hard feelings. The CV games are a fair challenge and the awkwardly awesome sluggish controls aren't going to be for everyone. In general I'd say the Metroidvania ones are much easier if you want to stick with those for a bit, though Order of Eclessia and Circle of the Moon can get really tough in comparison. I also think IV is one of the easiest ones to beat somewhat effortlessly after awhile, but I guess this thread has proven that some struggle with it and don't with others. There is a formula to the series, but your experience will definitely be different with them as each game has subtle changes making them different enough. So give a few more a shot, if your interest is there at all.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll try to remember that.Ziggy587 wrote:It's been a long while since I've played CV64, so my opinion might change a lot if I play it now. This series does call for a certain gluttony for punishment. That's why I call it "Spooky Contra".flylikeabird wrote:I think I might be a terrible gamer because I find Castlevania games extremely difficult/taxing. Yeah... Yeah I'm about at Xeogred's response to you about cutting you slack until getting to SOTNflylikeabird wrote:I think I might be a terrible gamer because I find Castlevania games extremely difficult/taxing. Heck, Castlevania is my favorite series and even *I* struggle to beat several of them. It's a hard series.... until you get to the Metroidvanias.
My suggestion for beating just about any boss in first castle SOTN? Dagger and lots of hearts. Just spam daggers and watch as the bosses can't even move.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!

The metroidvanias are super fun, but I agree most of them are piss easy. Except for Circle of the Moon and Order of Ecclesia, which is probably why I think they are the best of the handheld bunch. Symphony of the Night is probably the easiest of all of them, except for maybe Harmony of Dissonance.KalessinDB wrote:Heck, Castlevania is my favorite series and even *I* struggle to beat several of them. PLAY KING'S FIELD.

I use holy water for every boss, with the exception of The Granfaloon and Beelzebub. The ax works well for either. Or just spam Power of Sire, pentagrams, or some other such goodie.KalessinDB wrote:My suggestion for beating just about any boss in first castle SOTN? Dagger and lots of hearts. Oh, yeah, the Jewel Knuckles are great. As is Soul Steal when you're in a pinch. Street Fighter-inspired motions, I choose you!
