Nintendo Handheld Gaming Thread (Game Boy to DS)

I've been on a gameboy roll, it happened again.

I think I mentioned around 2 weeks ago getting that complete one from 1989 barely used, then days later the plastic snap case original gbpocket too.

Last wednesday I went into work for meetings, left and did a long way around and hit up the book and music exchange, found for $50 there a nearly flawless (few scratches on battery cover) NES GBA SP. Then today for just $20 I got another GBP, same model as the one I had before but a transition one into the black cardboard small box (though the box is meant for the black border lens.) Those things are worth $50-55 complete.

I'm going to swap a bit though, don't need two, going to keep the dead mint GBP with the plastic case, then swap the one with minor cosmetics into the cardboard and sell that one at cost of the one I got over a week ago to break even. Also found a harvest moon friends of mineral town gba game in the box (no manual) for $8, been trying again to grow stuff and nothing ever happens so I'm not keeping it. I for the life of me can NOT play any form of harvest moon, even with a goddamned faq I can't make money in that game it's so infuriating as a farming/relationship 'sim' should be fairly chill and fun.

This weekend is a Game Boy weekend.

I've been playing:

Bubble Ghost: This one was a ton of fun, and the difficulty was well judged. I beat it, so expect it in the Game Beaten thread soon.

Kirby's Pinball Land - A lot harder than I remember it being as a kid. Especially Whispy's level, I'm awful at that one. A long way off beating Dedede yet.

Solar Striker - I only managed to get to stage 3 before hitting game over this time. A bad run. My furthest point is the stage 5 boss, out of 6 levels. One day...

Micro Machines - I kinda like how this one plays, but I've given up on it - the issue is the lack of a map and the zoomed in GB perspective makes it too hard to react to the track. The high speed doesn't help things.

Wave Race - I actually quite like this one. The turbo guage is useful and the fact the game actually has a course map is a godsend. Made it through 550cc and 650cc difficulties, just 800cc to go!

Catrap - Playing this now. I like the game, but the puzzles get really complex really fast. Lets see how far I can get.

We had Kirby's Dream Land out earlier, but my girl decided to be fussy and intentionally annoying as she can play fairly well into that game and refused to suck up anything, ran into stuff, and died on the first mini boss even after I re-showed her how to do stuff so off went the games for the day.

Since my last post and like 2-3 days apart I found a couple local gems I once owned. I found for 7 Mega Man Dr Wilys Revenge and then second was Bubble Bobble GB for $5. Given they're like 50% or better off ebay I was thrilled. Sure I could pick up cheap games on ebay but it's more fun to accident into stuff, and when it's not being ebay price compared too.

Thanks to a good friend I have a couple of GBA SP's coming. My third GBA SP will be a nice silver one and my 4th is the one I've been wanting for a long time, an AGS-101. Once I grab a couple of GBA to NGC links I can play four player Four Swords, Crystal Chronicles, and Pac-Man vs.

As for GB playing I've been playing through Mario Picross and at some point I'd like to try the English translation of The Frog For Whom the Bell Tolls.

I think game reproductions.com sells the frog game for or under 30 with all new parts along with a few other gems translated into English.

I've been playing the original Wave Race on Game Boy. Whilst I've had a lot of fun with 550cc and 650cc difficulty, the jump to 800cc is ridiculous and feels utterly cheap. Really disappointed to be honest, I was enjoying it up to now.

How do you have so much trouble with HM? FoMT is so easy....I just don't play it all the way to whatever end it may have as badly as I kind of want to....

I don't know, I just do. I just overwork the player in the SNES one and N64 when I had them. I'd never get anything to grow almost every single time, even if it did, it was so piss poor I didn't make anything cash wise to improve growing or the property. I just would grow nothing or on a couple occasions be stuck. That was the third one I've tried, but in all fairness I've never had a manual. I know you should clear up obstructions, til the soil, throw seed, water daily unless it rains and something should pop up but I'll be damned surprised if it ever did. Just bad luck I guess. I've always thought it would be something I'd enjoy as it's like sim city but farming with a story and if you wish it, a relationship, but it never worked out.

All said I won't give up, so if I ever find another version on a system I own cheap again I'll try it once more, then probably end up selling it unless I somehow get somewhere in it. I will though fairly try it as I have with other games I've disliked or has issues with in the past if I come across them.
