Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?

As far as FPS games go, I must say that the scheme used in things like the unreleased Half-Life work really really well if you get used to them. You use the four face buttons to move forward, back or sideways. You use the analog stick to aim. You use the shoulders to fire and the dpad for switching weapons, etc. It's actually really comfortable once you "get it."

I may be off on this, but I know Turok on N64 did this as well using the C buttons for movement and the stick was to look around, perhaps it was the first and others aped/modded it as needed until twin sticks got into general use.

It's used in multiple N64 games. I'm pretty sure Golden Eye has a setting somewhat similar to this, but I haven't played it in a while. I'm alright with that scheme, I just find it really hard to use on the N64 controller due to that weird ass setup.

I think they have something semi-similar, but it was Perfect Dark that gave a choice of a control just like Turok has (but not by default, it defaults like 007.)

Goldeneye also has one that lets you use the d-pad for movement and the stick for aiming. It lacks a crosshair on the screen like Perfect Dark, though. It also feels really weird to hold an N64 controller like that... but it's better than the alternative after I've been ingrained by dual-analog shooters all this time.

I think Turok is the best shooter on the N64. I just had more fun with it than Perfect Dark (#2) or Goldeneye (#3). This could have to do with my prospects for split screen being my cousins who at that time were 4-6 years old though .

I'm not into Minecraft but I see absolutely no reason to hate it beyond, "because it's popular."

I like the fact that a lot of kids like it. It seems constructive and intellectually-stimulating.

Ditto, it's the video game equivalent to Legos. I think its going to have a lot of impact on the gaming industry when today's kids are the ones making tomorrow's games.

A friend of mine teaches elementary school, and she uses it in class with her fifth graders. I'm not sure about the specifics of how she uses in her lessons, but she's super creative and one to go out of her way to make a good lesson (she once spent four hours straight looking at Pintrest and YouTube to figure out a way to make a fun lesson about clouds when we were in college).

I like Minecraft, but I get bored with it easily.

Digital Lego nails it, hell they even make a whole Minecraft series of Lego after they originally made just a few one off square shaped sets that solid like wildfire. I see no reason to hate it, other than annoyance over the overkill levels of high priced (due to trendiness) merchandise around it. I've got it, I can't quite get into it though for very long. I think my problem is that unlike Lego, you get no manual on how to craft stuff and also since I think it's basically random sometimes I just never find certain raw goods to make stuff. I played it for a few weeks whenever I bought it, rarely have gone back since, and now I can't even remember how the hell to craft a work bench or anything else.

I know I have one of those starter mini scholastic dark green basics books around here somewhere. I guess I'd rather just use real Lego but they have the same effect, right down to my lack of creativity on making anything with my big tub of random parts. I like having a guide (manual.)
