So basically just like Ys? I'm pretty sure the two years i've been on here you've replayed Ys both times(I'd think i'd get sick of a game playing it like that...)BoneSnapDeez wrote:I've actually beaten the original Phantasy Star every year for the last four years or so. Wouldn't surprise me if I revisit it again in 2016. I enjoy the whole series as well, including III. III does lots of things well, including the music. The opening theme is one of the best ever heard in a video game.

Turned out having less playtime than I thought this weekend, but I did go get that SHORTCAKE this morning. Now off to bribe a government official with it.

I'm pretty sure he beats Ys every month and the whole series once a year.darsparx wrote:So basically just like Ys? I actually haven't played it yet in 2016!!!
Re: RPG Progress Report
Made a bunch of PSG1 progress today. 9.5 hours in, everyone's upper 30s, Noah just decided to stop being so emo, and we're off to see Tajima.
UPDATE:
Another hour or so of progress. Beat Medusa and the Red Dragon. Everyone's lvl 39; we're off to Dezoris.

Damn you are rollin' through it.
I wonder if the amount of grinding is reduced in the remake a bit.

Yes, the remake is easier than the original. Besides less grinding needed, the remake features a "Consultation" option, allowing party members to converse and help players to determine their next course of action. Then there's the Atlas item which automatically maps dungeons for the player.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.
Re: RPG Progress Report
I've done a little bit of grinding up at four different points: once at the beginning, once at the Prison where you find Dr. Luveno, once out in the open water, and once outside of Sopia because I needed MESETA to bribe a greedy Motavian. But other than those occasions for a few levels apiece, it's not been too bad.
The conversations with the SAY command are invaluable in figuring out where to go next. Without them I'd be consulting a walkthrough a lot more than I currently am. And the ATLAS option is crucial, even though I'm using maps for the dungeons. Ain't nobody got time for that.
I will say one of the most powerful changes is the GEM system. With an ICE GEM and a HEAL GEM equipped, characters have access to a brutal attack called BANISHMENT that does massive damage. I killed the Red Dragon with 3 hits of it.
