pretty sure there is a USB adapter to use DC kb/m on PC, but not the other way around.
Also, please say Outtrigger is on the map for online play. Or is that lost to the annals of history
The only games that are currently revealed to be possibly figured out how to get back online right now are Worms World Party and Alien Front Online as well as the multiplayer component of the unreleased Half-Life port.

At this point, any other game is wishful thinking. But of course over the years we've seen some surprises (Planet Ring, Toy Racer...)

That is what I was afraid of. Outtrigger was my favorite game on Dreamcast online, after AFO ofcourse. Id gladly build Dreampis for people if I got to play it again. Then again, there are trains:

My goal is that once I get the radio PC case built, I can clean up my gaming area and then put a CRT in between my computer monitors. That way I can play something like the Dreamcast or oXbox, but with voicechat through the PC.

that looks good. I don't like 3rd person stuff as much as first person. But it does look good - and works with kb/m right?

It does work with KB/M.

So in researching this, Dreamcast online is very neat. Turnsout that alot of the games have the same bootstrap to call a server (think about it like the login page) based on TCP/UDP, but very few have the same network code. The bootstrap is the hard part to crack, and if you figure it out and get one running, others that use similar will fall like dominos. Meaning if they get NFL2k2 online, NBA2k2 will be in short order. This was called Kage on the Dreamcast, and later became SNAP on the PS2. The issue is that while most games used Kage, some used heavily modified version (ie Propeller Arena or Outtrigger) or their own (ie UT and Worms). The heavily modified version of Kage apparently had a different server listing system, which would ofcourse be very difficult to reverse engineer.

The good news is that there is a team looking to emulate Kage whole hog. A version of SNAP was recently released with a server emulator by Nokia who bought it from Sega. A different team is working on converting Nokia's release to handle SNAP Based games (not really Dreamcast related but super interesting). Per the dcserv team, it looks like AFO is 80%ish complete, but they keep having a packet size mismatch error. So hopefully this year.

TLDR version:
Outtrigger online not in the forseeable future. AFO hopefully this year. Shit gets complicated fast

I forgot all about the DreamPi thing, last time I heard about it, it was just a video and the description said it was coming soon. I would be totally down to set one up to get my DC online. I have been looking into alternative methods since the pd-dc server days (where you needed to run windows 98) but never committed to any setup.

ha!

I would have done so much better if I didn't have those log-in problems early on.

Good news!

Implemented the voltage inducer this morning:
Image

Just got my 56k USB modem in and configured DreamPi and...
Image

IT WORKS!

The picture isn't obvious, but DreamPi is running on the left, and Planetweb Dreamcast Browser running on the right. The console successfully sent out a tone, my DreamPi recognized it, answered it, and connected, and I now have internet on my Dreamcast. Next is to get my games configured with it, but the process was easy.

Once I confirm that I can do something like connect to PSO servers, I'm planning on making a really clear and concise guide on getting online with the DreamPi. There is a lack of tutorials and I had to go to multiple sources to get the information I needed.

Also need to know some websites that Dreamcast browsers can actually connect to... because most websites use Java or CSS and this can't handle that.

Ghudda check out http://dreampipe.net/ which is a portal for DC online stuff.

and Spoonybard's http://dcdlc.com/ which collects DC DLC that you can download straight to VMU.

Ugh Dreampipe looks amazing. Going to try connecting to it on my DC in a bit. Also, thanks a bunch for the dlc link, I'm going to get on that as well.

Last DreamPi update before I make an official thread:

Had an old PSOne empty power supply shell that's been laying around forever and it works perfectly as an enclosure for the inducer. Just needs a sexy Dreamcast decal.

I'm pleased with how this has turned out. I'll be working on a guide throughout the weekend.
