Haha, yeah. Some games only serve to show us what not to do. But the beauty of it is that either way, we still get to play a lot of fun games.Sarge wrote:Ehh... I'm thinking about it a bit, and I suppose that there's no true baseline on what "good" is. If the only game in existence was Flappy Bird, would it still be a bad game?
Oh, good grief, I don't think I'm going to jump down this absolute/relativism hole. It's complicated enough as it is. I think we can just all agree that some games in comparison to other games have no redeeming features.

I am posting to point out that the most recent issue of Game Informer ran a two-page article on why WeaponLord is one of the best, deepest fighting games ever made (and how people have come to appreicate its qualities in the two decades since its release). So...the opinion that WeaponLord is the best fighting game of its generation may no longer be classified as an unpopular opinion.

And yet every year I try to get it into Together Retro, and every year it gets shot down.prfsnl_gmr wrote:I am posting to point out that the most recent issue of Game Informer ran a two-page article on why WeaponLord is one of the best, deepest fighting games ever made (and how people have come to appreicate its qualities in the two decades since its release). Are you guys talking about that shitty SNES/Genesis fighter with the terrible animation and ridiculous sound effects?

Seriously, the video about WeaponLord from one of the devs showcasing everything you can do is an hour long:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sq7hnTnpLjI
The guys playing are out of practice, but some of the information they reveal about the development of the game, the community that was into it, and how everything plays is actually quite amazing.

WeaponLord is pretty cool. I've never been into the art style but it's impressive for a non-arcade fighter of the time.
