[PS Vita/PS3/PS4/PC] Helldivers

I picked this up at release last year and it's free for PS+ members this month (Feb 2016). Cross-play between all Sony systems (sorry, no cross platform play with PC).

What is it?
Helldivers is a top-down, 4 players co-op, twin-stick shooter that is set in a Starship Troopers influenced universe. There is a lot of emphasis on teamwork and friendly fire is always on. You will have to work with your fellow Helldivers to complete objectives and liberate the resources Super Earth needs to spread managed democracy throughout the known galaxy.

How does it play?
What if XCOM was a top-down, co-op shooter? I think that's how I could best describe it. Not familiar with XCOM? Imagine a co-op Starcraft space marines themed shooter. Players select from 3 different factions to fight against and are given planets of varying difficulty to begin their Helldive, drop pod style. Helldivers can be played online or offline, though playing online opens up a community based campaign where progress is pooled toward an overall galactic war with the different factions. Events are triggered when the community reaches certain goals.

I enjoyed playing Lost Planet 2 with some of you guys and though the two are very different games, Helldivers shares that over-the-top sci fi vibe with 4 player co-op and a huge toy box of weapons, vehicles, and special perks to play with.

Definitely one i need to play. I'm not usually a fan of shooting games of any sort(except maybe shmups which I need to add some to my collection), but a top down twinstick I think I could get into....good thing i already renewed my stuff thanks to the fact I have quite a few games I want to play that force me to keep the sub even though the quality of ps+ has kinda dropped....

Is it that popular that PSN's servers are super slow?

Downloaded the game the other day and since I saw the topic,I decided to play it.

aaaand I'm stuck on an update!

But why is it so damn slow? I've got 58 minutes left and its only at 17%

Hope this game is worth it.

The update took forever after I installed the disc version. This was before the PS+ availability. So I think it's just pulling from a shitty server.

The game servers have been taking a pounding since PS+ though. I haven't really experienced any issues with the group I dive with (one guy couldn't connect until I hosted tonight), but there are many accounts stating that things haven't been this unstable since the game launched last year. Just hang in there, everything will level out once some of the newer players get tired of their free game and move on to something else.

So the disc version that I bought was unopened and it came with a code to redeem for the Vita and PS3 versions of the game. I already purchased the core Helldivers game when it was released last year, so I don't really need this. However, the code does include all of the DLC that's on the PS4 disc.

Edit: NVM, a friend at work expressed interest to I sold it to him.
