well yeah, it's straight tribute. I mean "Green Inferno" is even the name of the movie that the filmmakers are making in the original Cannibal Holocaust...
But like I said, I haven't seen it yet. But surely will. I'm a big fan of Roth's work.

Bond girl Daniela Bianchi is beautiful, and Robert Shaw was great as the bad guy. I can almost imagine him saying of Bond: "I'll find him for three, but I'll catch him, and kill him, for ten".
My girlfriend and I have been going through old Bond films recently too. Robert Shaw is incredible in that movie, I agree. In my recent viewing I got a really strange Daniel Craig vibe from him. He has similar looks and swagger.
From Russia With Love would be the perfect cold-war spy movie if not for the gypsy camp scene which is just kind of awkward and terrible. It's one of my all time favorites though. I'm not sure if I prefer it or Goldfinger.
Anyway I just watched Red Letter Media's "Space Cop."
It wasn't great, not that even they themselves expected it to be, but I got a few chuckles.
Speaking of horror films, I recently watched the Shining for the millionth time.
Still brilliant.
Quite likely my favorite horror movie. The only thing that comes close is Silence of the Lambs (which is more of a detective story than a horror).

I love The Shining as well. I wish Kubrick would have made a lot more horror flicks. I wouldn't say it is my favorite, but it's hard to say that any other horror film is actually "better". I suppose you can say that for most things Kubrick put out, in every genre.
I have watched a bunch of movies recently just to refresh them in my mind for a convention this weekend a couple standouts:
Haxan
Pivotal in the creation of horror movies as a format. It is more of a documentary than a straight horror film, but it cost 2 million kroner when made in 1921. So yes it is Swedish, but it is not marred with the modern low budgetness feeling of a film of that era (like Nosferatu - thats not to take away from the brilliance of Nosferatu, it just has the feeling of a modern low budget film in many ways).
Carnival of Souls
This 1962 masterpiece of cinematography has one of the best organ soundtracks in a movie. Sadly the plot is kinda wild at points and some of the special effects did not age very well. It is more of a psychological horror which will get you spine tingiling. I view it more as an extra long Twilight Zone episode
Peeping Tom
Written by a polymath, Peeping Tom is the definitive early 60s horror movie, there I said it. Psycho got the press, but Peeping Tom is a modern day psychological thriller made in the late 50s. Now the story is not as scary as it had to have been back in the day, since there have been several copycats. The director was good friends with Hitchcock and was a still photographer on several of his films, which leads many people to belive he knew that Psycho was coming and made a film at the same time - but that is a bit conspiracy theory for me. It would have been lost in time if Scorcese had not mentioned it was one of his favorite films.
Maniac Cop
Take out the slasher elements and you have a great comedy staring Bruce Campbell and Robert Z'Dar.
To end on a lighter note:
Сказочное путешествие мистера Бильбо Беггинса, Хоббита, Skazochnoye puteshestviye mistera Bilbo Begginsa, Hobbita - aka The Fabulous Journey of Mr. Bilbo Baggins the Hobbit
So this is a made for TV children's adaptation of the Hobbit from 1985 USSR. That alone should tell you all you need to know, if not look at the picture. Its about an hour and a half long, they apparently showed it in sections. It is the worst adaptation I have seen, even worse than Gene Deitch which has the heart of the mountain killing Slag the dragon, but they do have some unique sets and costumes.
Edit:
Turbo Kid
Mad Max on Bicycles with a comedy bent. What more could you want? It is a bit gorier than I would like but solid cast, solid story telling, and engaging scenes made for a fun hour and a half. It could have been cut down to Kung Fury length, but it works as is.
Time for a movie review! This movie sucks! Dont buy it! If someone gives it to you they're not your friend. Leave it where you see it. It's not worthy of being a coaster for your drink.
Oh but you say, "its got Jackie Chan on it, Cant be that bad?" Well it is! Despite what the blu-ray cover shows, Its not a jackie chan movie. That cover is pure deception! Whoever decided to bring this movie to north america was hoping that an unsuspecting fool would buy it and get to see see quality fight scenes. But this movie isn't even about him! Its about some stupid annoying little twerp. who idolizes Jackie Chan. The movie focuses on him and his lame journey to become Mr. Chan's disciple.
Cue the cheezy forced East Asian Drama! The kid runs away from home all in the pursuit to meet his idol. And his reasons for doing so is lame and cliche. While there are some okay fight scenes (if you take fighting loosely). This kid bumbles his way through fights, criminals, good and bad people and basically looks like the dorky fool that he is. Worst of all, its all caked on to make the movie seem longer. Padding to fill minutes on screen. Makes me think racist thoughts. Do all Asians love bad drama like this? Is the journey as important as the destination?
In the end he doesn't even accomplish his dream. HIs grandma does it for him. In the end Jackie takes pity on this woman and arranges a meet up with the main character. Where the dork just sobs and mumbles, because he was bullied and wants jackie chan to teach him kung-fu. BLEECH! (vomit)
Horrible. Just horrible. I'm a masochist when it comes to movies. I want to watch them all the way to the end. In the hopes the movie has at least one bit of saving grace. So even though a movie is bad, I plod through. Watch it all the way to the end. I wasted 85 minutes of my life! Don't you make the same mistake. And what makes this more insulting is that it's ruining the name of Jackie chan. There is a sappy scene with him trying to make everything right. He gives sound advice to the MC. But in the end the kid doesn't even learn his lesson! But what pissed me off most is the lies! Jackie's real voice isn't even in it. He's been dubbed! His scenes seemed caked on! Just a way for that Chinese movie studio to sucker people into movie theaters. Or buying blu-ray discs! I'm glad I only paid a few bucks for this movie. Anything more and it would be a real crime!
So like I said, Dont trust the cover! None of those scenes on the box are in any part a plot of this movie! That's just the movie within the movie.
Dont fall for the bullshit! Recycle this plastic P.O.S. and don't let it taint your blu-ray movie collection.
1 out of 10 stars.
Now excuse me while I watch some anime. I'll be better entertained by that.
