Actually the original Call of Duty is quite awesome. I recommend it.

But this is about RPGs, so...not sure which one I will end up playing next of all the stuff I own once I finish with Rites of War.

Oh, the first two CoD games were amazing.

I'm torn between which of the SNES Fire Emblem games I want to play once I finish Megadimension Neptunia while I wait for Fire Emblem Fates to release. I'm leaning towards Genealogy of the Holy War, but I just don't know...

I own a pile of Call of Duty games. I've only beat the first two though, on PC. They were quite good.

I imagine they suck compared to Medal of Honor Allied Assault.

Anyways yeah, RPG's. You know it's been awhile since I've played FFVI and the next time I get back around to it, I'm going to do a non-magic run. Terra, Celes, and the blue mage and his daughter can still learn magic, but I think it'll make the game a lot more fun and interesting to restrict it that way, so it ends up playing a bit more like FFIV and you can only use the unique abilities per character.

That said, Edgar's chainsaw still breaks everything. I always have a blast using Sabin and Cyan too.

Or... perhaps I should replay FFIX to really evaluate that one. I'm still not sure how I feel about it, but I did 100% it (even got all the cards) back when it was new. Everyone loves it, but I haven't thought much about it or touched it since.

FF4-7 I can replay forever though.

I never thought I'd say this, but I want another CoD that is in WWII.

I've already explained that you want to do Genealogy.

So is that going to be a no Esper run, or are you still willing to equip Espers for stat boosts?

And Relm is not Strago's daughter; she's his granddaughter (possibly adopted). She's Shadow's daughter.

Nope, didn't get to King's Field... booted up my PSP late last night, only to find the battery icon empty and blinking. I plugged it in (the other room) and spent some time with Suikoden on Vita instead. What a delightful little game! I feel stupid it took me so long for me to try this series. As an early pre-FFVII PS1 RPG I guess I expected it to be a lot more primitive... which is stupid I guess, considering it's really just a beefed up 16bit RPG. Still it's vastly superior (so far) to it's competition... like the first Wild Arms, or (spit) Beyond the Beyond.

My evening is pretty free, though, so I'll be diving into KF1 tonight after work.
I review (mostly old) games at: The Annals of Retrodom.

This is the point where I descend on the thread and say Beyond the Beyond isn't good, but it isn't the awful game it's made out to be, either. I just wish someone would take out the pauses between attacks in the battle system to make it faster, and all would be (relatively) golden.

It's an average 16-bit RPG on a 32-bit platform, which probably accounts for the ire it gets.

Seiken Psycho Caliber: Maju no Mori Densetsu

I've made a little more progress.

Like Neutopia, this one's divided into several distinct "worlds" instead of one large sprawling overworld. Right now I'm in a desert area.

This is a weird one. On one hand, it's kind of easy. You have regenerating health, like in the Ys series. Also, items that permanently increase health (basically the equivalent of heart containers) are dropped occasionally by regular enemies. The boomerang item also kills enemies outright, instead of simply stunning them.

There are also some hugely annoying aspects. Only one "rupee" (or whatever the money is called) can exist on the screen at a time. So you have to make sure you pick them as up soon as they appear, before you slay any additional enemies. The screen-scrolling is a bit off, and you can't attack from the edge of a screen - you have to move "into" it first (the enemies can still hit you though!).

Then there's the time limit. What the eff.

Basically a second-rate "Zelda clone" so far. Fundamentally entertaining, but nothing to write home about. Oh, you can play as a girl though!

It's a short and sweet JRPG, took me about 20 hours to finish. Delightfully fast battle system and overall excellent pacing. Unfortunately the sequel's own pacing is lethargic in comparison and I quickly lost interest in it.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.
