So Shadow Tower and Eternal Ring are more-or-less parts of the King's Field series? I assume these are all first-person.
Evergrace and Forever Kingdom are totally separate though? Are these third-person?
I've been meaning to try a bunch of these games for the longest time. I tend to have a liking for crusty old JRPGs that fly under most folks' radar (see The 7th Saga, for instance).

No, ST and ER are not directly related to King's Field. They're just first person dungeon crawls made by From Software, and play very similarly to KF, although with some distinct differences.BoneSnapDeez wrote:So Shadow Tower and Eternal Ring are more-or-less parts of the King's Field series? They are related, Forever Kingdom is the prequel to Evergrace. Yes they are third person.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Evergrace and Forever Kingdom are totally separate though? Are these third-person?
That criteria fits every RPG From Software made until the Souls series took off.BoneSnapDeez wrote:I tend to have a liking for crusty old JRPGs that fly under most folks' radar (see The 7th Saga, for instance).
PLAY KING'S FIELD.
Re: RPG Progress Report
bruno tells me Shadow Tower was probably the bigger blueprint for Souls, than King's Field.
Re: RPG Progress Report
Yeah, I'd forgotten that Forever Kingdom serves as a prequel, but of course, it came after Evergrace. If memory serves, wasn't Evergrace a launch game? It and Dark Cloud really suffered from having the "Zelda-killer" moniker attached to them.

Don't know about the Zelda influence though. I beat Dark Cloud myself not too long ago, wasn't very Zelda IMO.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.
Re: RPG Progress Report
Yes it was a launch title.
I would highly advise not going into From Software games always expecting quality. Watch out!...
I'd like if Armored Core was still good too. 2 was the last one I really cared about.

So far I've only played one From Software game that I thought was a dud:
It had nice graphics at least.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

It's fun for about thirty seconds.
Not From Software's most shining moment.
