This is kind of unlike me as a gamer, but I've been wanting to start a PC big box collection more or less just for the sake of having one. I'm not too sure why, but I like the big boxes. Possibly for the same reasons I like vinyl, I love to look at artwork.

Figures, all the ones I search for on eBay are expensive. I mean, not crazy money, but not cheap. I guess I'll have to just keep an eye out and pick up things when I find them for good prices.

I have a short window where I picked up and saved a ton of my big boxes for PC. It's pretty much in the '97-'01 window. I can't remember all of them, but they're all stashed in the closet back at the parents. And no, they're not going to throw them away. :)

Even cooler is the massive manuals. I loved poring through those. I think I read more about Civilization than I actually played. Same for the original Master of Orion.

Gave up big box PC a while back. Had to, at that point in my life I had little free time. Wasting an hour of it trying to get a 15 year old PC game to run was more than I was willing to sacrifice. I just migrated to Steam. The space at the time was an issue also, they take up tons of room. They are cool though if you have space for them. Wonder if they are inflating in price as much as console gaming has.

Well like I said, eBay prices weren't dirt cheap for common games as I was expecting it to be.

Space isn't a big concern of mine. I'm not looking to make a walls filled with boxes. Just a modest collection of my favorites.

The problem with the PC big boxes is they didn't tend to have much structural padding inside, or if they did the owners rarely put it back in due to the size. So there's a major lack of supply on them due to them just getting trashed over the years.

More updates on XCOM 2. I plan to keep these up until Noise sells a kidney and buys it for himself, because he knows he wants it so bad.

Got cocky, and when running forward to get a few extra percentage points on a shot against a turret I aggroed a pod with a Sectopod and a couple other guys. Considering there was still an Andromedan who had just savaged a couple of my troops and my medic was panicking so they were probably going to die to acid on their next turn and most of my moves were used up this went from "I think I can stabilize" to "oh shit, evac!" Fortunately, I was able to get out four of my six squad members, though I did lose my Major Sharpshooter. Double fortunately, I managed to do a story mission where I didn't lose a single member, getting a couple out of shaken state, promotions all around, and two ticks off the Avatar timer. That bought me some breathing room, though now I'm working towards another enemy base to knock the timer down some more. I've got Plasma on everyone and the basic top tier armor. I need more alien materials to get people kitted out with the heavy armor and some of the stealth armors. Assuming I don't make more massive tactical errors like before (that mission I got hosed in I also engaged poorly and aggroed three things at once when breaking cover and a fourth thing midway through the fight before the fifth Sectopod pod) I think I'm on track to being able to win this campaign. I'm not looking forward to the council mission I've got lined up, though; it's a VIP extraction which means I'm under the clock. I prefer the missions where I just need to get a support near something/blow something up/protect something, as I can take as much time as I want on the tail end.

The only PC big box I've saved and still have in mint condition is this one:

I have it displayed on my dork cave wall. What with being the best video game ever made my mankind, I figured it's deserving of the space.

Better yet, there should be posters of those Doom covers. Would be awesome.
