I beat E.V.O search for eden. for SNES.

I've been wanting t play it for a while and it was a curious mix of mundane gameplay and Quintet style storytelling.

I never actually evolved into a human. I'm not sure if you are supposed to or not. I finished the game as some sort of Rhino/horse hybrid.

I'm back to my Tales of Phantasia repro cart now. I wish the translator hadn't chosen to insert swearing in the game. It really does seem an ill-fitting choice and takes me out of the story.

That's what I've heard about the SNES fan translation. Did they use the same one for the PS1 fan translation? Because I totally just loaded that on to my PSP. Confession: I have never played a Tales game in my life.

Got 3 RPG's on the go at moment, kind of.

Still making some nice steady progress in Panzer Dragoon Saga. Up to disc four, trying to wring my moneys worth from it, haha.

Also started up Final Fantasy VII, up to Gongaga ready to do some grinding.

And finally playing Alcahest, which sort of counts. It's got some nice touches but it's pretty mediocre. Nice music though.

Definitely not. Different group, different translation, thankfully.

My cart has the "De Jap" translation. For the most parts it is high quality writing that is neither too simplistic or suffering from the horrible literalness of some translations, but every now and again some totally out of place western swearing will occur. A girl telling you to "piss off", a boy telling you the musicians "suck ass!" a girl being called a "whore" and, from what I've read an absurdly crass speculation on one of the characters potential bedroom skills is still waiting for me. All the creepier when you consider that these characters appear to be the usual anime inspired teenagers.

I don't doubt that a lot of the official translations of JRPG's we've become accustomed to were toned down from the Japanese original but that doesn't make it any less jarring to see language like this in a SNES game.

It's interesting you complain about Western focused swears, because translating swearing and insults is an important part of localization. Most of those tend to be very colloquial, and frequently have an idiomatic component to it. There's that Japanese insult "You're 100/1000/10000 years too early to beat me" that doesn't really have the same impact when translated literally.

Finished Chapter 6 in Xenoblade Chronicles X. Took me quite a few tries to beat the Tainted Sphinx. That, and Lao sucks in battle.

Seiken Psycho Caliber: Maju no Mori Densetsu

So this game is...... okay so far.

But whoever decided that a Zelda-like action-RPG needed a time limit should be kicked in the nutsicles.

Kingdom hearts final mix - so far so good but dang i hate boss battles i can't seem to act quick enough to use recovery items so I end up relying on donald and goofy which does me no good against Herc and now Riku/Ansem....
