If you deviated from the script then the boss would start tossing out random hit all attacks with a bunch of damage and had a nasty status effect. You'd see those following the script, it's just the script involved using the right Protector skill at the right time to negate it. Without the script you had a 1/3 chance of getting it right and a 2/3 chance of needing one of those rubber donuts.
Yikes. I didn't dive too far into the post-game stratum... at that point I already had EO2 waiting for me, and the final (normal) boss was so damn satisfying.

Man Zelda II is funny.

Girl in town needs water.
Link retrieves water from fountain about 2 feet away.
Girls says "Thanks! Come inside!"

Just got da boots so I can walk on water like an Elf Jesus.

Actually getting water is similar to the pineapple symbol. Hyrule has an active swinger community.

One time I followed the lady in the red dress and then got killed because she turned out to be an Agent.

Made it to Chapter 6 in Xenoblade Chronicles X. Took me a while to survey 20% of Noctilum.

Well, Zelda II is done. Ya know, the final dungeon isn't too bad - assuming you know what route to take and don't spend too much time screwing around. If anything, the path to the final dungeon is a bit trickier, especially with all those damn lava pits and flying enemies.
