Sega

Post by jp1 »

Ok, so I see a lot of Sega love on these boards as well as a lot of hate...I want to know how do you REALLY feel about sega bottom line. Here is my take....

Sega took a lot of risks and was the most innovative of all hardware producers. They had terrible ideas about marketing and trying to extend the life of the systems they produce. However, I would LOVE to see another Sega system and would probably purchase it launch day. I think they went under because they are innovative and take risks and people prefer mainstream BS..I take Dreamcast over PS2 to this day and always will.

Hell yeah man, DC over PS2 any day.

I haven't gone anywhere past the Dreamcast in the timeline of home gaming consoles, but if, and if- though it'll never happen- Sega were to compete, I'd pick that up in a heartbeat.

Damn, I love Sega.

Ill be honest, Ive been a hardcore Nintendo fan since the late 80s. I always favor my Nintendo's over my other consoles, but Sega, since the Saturn has been on my good side. The Genesis/Megadrive and I never clicked, I think it was the controller, but the Saturn kept 2d going in a world of 3d. Ill admit it, I still get giddy when I play some of the 2d games on the Saturn since they are just so pretty - and yes my girlfriend heckles me about that just as much as some of yall are mentally. But no matter what, Nintendo still gets my money first. Sega may be great, but Nintendo gave me Zelda, and well that ends any argument right there for me.

That said Baku Baku and Clockwork Knight are two of my favorite Sega games.

Personally I love Sega's innovation and what they did do right, but hate how they turned Sonic into a label to sell games that are well below what they could have done.

I was always a SEGA kid going way back to the Master System days(it did pretty good here in Aus) and if they released a new machine , I'd buy it on launch day with no questions asked. But that's never gonna happen, SEGA will die before ever releasing another console sadly.

And yes,for the most part I hate modern SEGA. Especially the head of SEGA of America. That guy is a dick.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

Sega is fabulous most of the time. They always accelerate in great arcade gameplay. The only reason why the Dreamcast isn't my all time favourite console (held by genesis), is because it has a massive hole in its library...No good platformers.

sega is the best for a number of reasons-sweet hardware, arcade games, just the feel of sega the marketing, the characters etc I love nintendo as well especially the old days, gaming is nothing like it used to be as great as it is now it was better back then (and better than the 70s) the golden era was nintendo-sega

I was a Nintendo fan from birth until a friend showed me the joys of Final Fantasy Tactics and Resident Evil 2, and then a Sony fan until the current generation, where I've been reevaluating and decided to try to enjoy all. I will say that I enjoy my Sega consoles. I'm a happy owner of both a Saturn and a Dreamcast. But having not grown up with it, I don't automatically think Sega is the greatest thing ever. Honestly, sometimes I think a lot of you guys are a little scary with some of your Sega worship, and I groan a little every time I see a new "Wouldn't it be great if Sega came back?" or "We love Sega SO MUCH!" or "We let Sega down!" thread on this forum.

Let's face it. The company had problems. Sure, they make great games and quality hardware, but I never felt like the guys running the company gave a shit about me, a member of the American market. Sure, Sega's America branch was great, but they got some serious shit from the Japanese heads on how to treat us and what to give us. And because of that and a bad sense of timing, they suffered. If they do come back, which I consider unlikely, especially in the current economic climate, what's to stop them from committing the same mistakes over again? And if they really start targeting the biggest market, China's gonna get everything and they still won't care about appealing to me in the American market.

I'm not intentionally just hating on Sega. It's all business, and I just wish some of you guys would get over Sega, stop bashing everybody else, and just realize that frankly, ALL these companies had awesome games and consoles. Even Sony's Evil Empire consoles, Microsoft's Black Clenched Fist of Corporate Darkness Xbox, and Nintendo's Fisher Price-modeled machines. Stop purchasing crap because one company's name is on it. Otherwise, you know where that gets you?

I am thoroughly enjoying that picture of master chief.
People really do need to stop sucking on the teats of the companies. You shouldn't let them get comfortable with their franchises. Make them work for our approval.
